Manchester United Weighs Competing for Benjamin Šeško Amid Newcastle Interest
Manchester United considers challenging Newcastle for Benjamin Šeško amid financial and strategic hurdles.

Manchester United have not formally withdrawn their interest in Benjamin Šeško, continuing discussions internally over the possibility of competing with Newcastle United to sign the RB Leipzig striker.
Currently, Newcastle remain the only confirmed suitors, but sources indicate that United see Šeško as an option should they secure the necessary funds.
Key figures at Manchester United, including manager Ruben Amorim, are set to deliberate on an approach. They are mindful of Newcastle’s interest, recognising that time may be limited to act decisively.
Acquiring Šeško is expected to be a costly affair, with German reports estimating a price exceeding €70 million (£61.2 million). United currently face financial constraints and focus primarily on player sales to facilitate any major acquisitions.
Aside from Šeško, United are pursuing other targets such as Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins. They have also been presented with the opportunity to acquire Dušan Vlahović from Juventus.
Previously, United hesitated over Šeško’s valuation, and even if they join the race, the player’s willingness to move to Old Trafford is uncertain. Šeško declined a move to Manchester United in 2023, stating, “It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football. I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.”

Amorim keeps Altay in goal as United face derby with limited options
Altay will start the derby; Cunha, Mount and Dalot are unavailable as Amorim addresses squad issues.

Ruben Amorim has confirmed Altay Bayındır will remain Manchester United’s starting goalkeeper for Sunday’s derby against Manchester City.
Amorim described the choice as a pragmatic one that balances immediate demands with longer term planning. Contributing to Onana’s decision to leave was the summer arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in a deal worth £18.2 million ($24.7 million). Hopes are incredibly high for the 23-year-old but Amorim is prepared to be patient when it comes to his involvement in the team.
“Altay is going to continue,” Amorim told his pre-match press conference. “It is a different league, different country, different ball. I know that we are in the moment that the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience.

“We are also in the moment that we have to look at the present, but also with a focus on the future. [Lammens] is a guy with great potential, that is one more option to play. We believe a lot in our goalkeepers. I believe in Altay. He’s ready to play.”
Amorim also confirmed United will be short in attack for the fixture. Matheus Cunha has not recovered since being forced off against Burnley before the international break, and Mason Mount is also unavailable after picking up an injury in the same game. Right back Diogo Dalot has been sent home from Portugal duty with a muscle injury and joins the treatment room.
“They are out for this game,” Amorim confessed. “I don’t know how long it’s going to take. We need those guys to be a very, very competitive team. We have very good players that are eager to play. So we will be competitive on Sunday.
“I don’t want to say [how long] because if you talk with Cunha, if you catch Cunha outside, he will say that he can play this game. So I don’t know. We will manage day by day. But they are pushing really hard.”

Amorim Keeps Altay in Goal as United Head into Derby Short on Options
Amorim confirms Altay starts the derby; Cunha Mount and Dalot unavailable as United manage injuries.

Ruben Amorim has confirmed Altay Bayındır will continue as Manchester United’s starting goalkeeper for Sunday’s derby against Manchester City.
Amorim described the decision as one that protects the present while keeping an eye on the future. The summer arrival of Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in a deal worth £18.2 million ($24.7 million) has altered the goalkeeper landscape at the club and contributed to Onana’s decision to leave. Hopes are high for the 23-year-old but Amorim is prepared to be patient over his integration.
“Altay is going to continue,” Amorim told his pre-match press conference. “It is a different league, different country, different ball. I know that we are in the moment that the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience.

Amorim also revealed the squad will be without a number of attacking players for the derby.
