Forest’s Fourth Permanent Appointment Makes Premier League History

Forest became the first Premier League team to appoint four permanent managers in one season. Today.

Nottingham Forest have become the first Premier League side to appoint four different permanent managers in a single season following the arrival of Vítor Pereira.

Ange Postecoglou barrelled into the City Ground in September only to be sacked two weeks before Halloween, having failed to win any of his eight matches at the helm. Sean Dyche then succeeded him, taking 22 points from his 18 Premier League fixtures, yet his inability to deliver sustained momentum brought an abrupt end to his tenure on February 12, 2026.

Pereira, announced on February 15, 2026, inherits a club perched precariously close to the relegation zone, one place and three points above West Ham United in 18th. His first assignment will be the Europa League knockout round trip to Turkish side Fenerbahçe on Thursday, with his maiden Premier League outing a visit from Liverpool three days later.

Pereira’s recent Premier League record is mixed. He took charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers in December 2024 with the club 19th and five points adrift of safety. Consecutive victories at the start of his spell and a run of six straight wins between the middle of March and the end of April secured Wolves’ survival. Wolves’ 3–0 victory over Leicester City on April 26 would be Pereira’s last Premier League win for the club; he collected three points from his next 14 top-flight fixtures and was dismissed in November.

Forest’s sequence of permanent appointments this season follows a wider pattern in English football where clubs that used multiple managers in a single campaign often suffered. Including interim and caretaker appointments, nine other clubs had turned to four coaches in one season; eight of those were subsequently relegated. Chelsea were the only exception, having replaced Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter in 2022–23, used Bruno Saltor for one goalless draw with Liverpool, and then Frank Lampard for the remainder of the campaign, which ended with a 12th-placed finish.

Forest’s immediate objective is straightforward: finishing above 18th would be warmly received by the club this year.

Tottenham Hotspur’s first Premier League win of 2026 failed to pull them out of the relegation zone as West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United all collected points in midweek. Nottingham Forest demolished Sunderland 5–0 to record three wins from their last four, maintaining a five-point cushion over 18th-placed Spurs. Leeds remain focused on their FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea on Sunday, and Sean Longstaff’s 97th-minute equalizer against Bournemouth midweek kept their survival hopes alive.

Spurs sit on 34 points, West Ham on 36, Nottingham Forest on 39 and Leeds on 40. The final four fixtures carry heavy significance for each club.

Tottenham
– Aston Villa (A) – May 3
– Burnley (H) – May 1
– Chelsea (A) – May 4
– Everton (H) – May 24
Winning against Wolves was an obligation for Tottenham, but the weekend trip to Aston Villa is a far sterner test. A crucial home meeting with Leeds follows and then an away match at Stamford Bridge. Di Zerbi’s side conclude at home to Everton in a fixture described as likely to determine their fate.

West Ham
– Brentford (A) – May 2
– Arsenal (H) – May 10
– Newcastle (H) – May 10
– Leeds (H) – May 11
West Ham will take confidence from an agonizing win against Everton and seven points from their last three. Brentford, winless since February, present a winnable game, before a daunting home match with Arsenal and an away day at Newcastle. The season ends at the London Stadium against Leeds.

Forest travel to Stamford Bridge next weekend, a match sandwiched by a Europa League semifinal tie against Aston Villa. They then host Newcastle before travelling to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the penultimate weekend. Forest will hope safety is secure by the time Bournemouth visit the City Ground in the final match.

Leeds United
Leeds aim to be FA Cup finalists by the time they host Championship-bound Burnley, a match that offers a valuable opportunity to collect three points and move closer to Premier League survival.

Elliot Anderson’s Choice: Guaranteed Role at United or Trophies with City

Elliot Anderson must choose between guaranteed starts at United and the trophy-laden path at City. .

Elliot Anderson has emerged as one of the defining transfer stories of the window. Manchester City opened early contact with the 23-year-old while Manchester United remain active, creating a genuine duel for the Nottingham Forest midfielder.

“Manchester City already started talking with the agents of the player, but Manchester United remain in conversations for Elliot Anderson,” Fabrizio Romano revealed. “Manchester United are not giving up.

“They know that Manchester City started their plan to sign the player a long time ago, but until the deal is done, Man Utd want to be there. Man Utd want to try, and they believe that having the opportunity eventually to offer Champions League football to the player could be important in order to try to get closer to Manchester City in this race.

“But what can make the difference is the negotiation with Nottingham Forest, and who’s going to pay what Nottingham Forest want.”

Reports suggest a fee in the region of $135 million (£100 million) is likely. The choice facing Anderson is clear: at Old Trafford he could step into a midfield that will be reworked this summer. Casemiro is due to leave and Manuel Ugarte is likely to follow, leaving Kobbie Mainoo as perhaps the only senior midfielder who will remain. Under Michael Carrick the Red Devils have regained cohesion and stand close to sealing Champions League qualification, which would bolster United’s appeal.

City offer a different proposition. They cannot promise an undisputed starting berth in a star-studded squad but they can offer a stronger record of recent success. Even in a relatively down year, City are on course for domestic honours: the Carabao Cup is secured, they are in the FA Cup semi-final and remain in the Premier League title race. Pep Guardiola’s contract runs until 2027, though there is speculation over his longer-term future. Guardiola’s work with midfielders over the past two decades is an obvious draw for Anderson.

Carrick shares a local connection with Anderson, both products of Wallsend Boys Club, which may influence the decision. With Chelsea and Liverpool also linked, Anderson may wait to see how negotiations progress, but Manchester remains the most likely destination based on this season’s trajectory.

How the final Premier League fixtures shape the relegation fight for four clubs

Four clubs fight to stay up as final Premier League fixtures create a tense month of decisive games.

More dropped points for Tottenham Hotspur have left Roberto De Zerbi’s men in the drop zone, clinging to life in the Premier League alongside West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United. Safety remains within reach, but the final month promises decisive swings depending on form and fixtures.

Leeds sit 15th after a thumping 3–0 win over Wolves, a result that all but condemned Rob Edwards’s side to the Championship. For the three clubs below them, a strong finish is essential if they are to avoid joining that fate.

Standing points: Tottenham 31, West Ham 32, Nott’m Forest 33, Leeds 39.

Tottenham (remaining): Wolves (A) – April 25; Aston Villa (A) – May 3; Leeds (H) – May 11; Chelsea (A) – May 17; Everton (H) – May 24. Despite troubling form, Spurs will like their odds against Wolves. Three points there are a necessity before a trip to Villa Park. The home game with Leeds could prove pivotal; dropped points would leave Chelsea and Everton on the docket to decide Spurs’ fate.

West Ham (remaining): Crystal Palace (A) – April 20; Everton (H) – April 25; Brentford (A) – May 2; Arsenal (H) – May 10; Newcastle (A) – May 17; Leeds (A) – May 24. West Ham get extra days to prepare for Crystal Palace and will need their best form across fixtures against Everton and Brentford. With league leaders Arsenal ahead and a trip to St James’ Park one week later, the Hammers must channel results to stay clear.

Nottingham Forest (remaining): Burnley (H) – April 19; Sunderland (A) – April 24; Chelsea (A) – May 4. Europa League matches against Aston Villa come between domestic fixtures. After the second leg of the semifinals, Vítor Pereira’s men return to take on Newcastle, then travel to Old Trafford on the second-to-last matchday before hosting Bournemouth on May 24.

Leeds (remaining): Bournemouth (A) is the biggest remaining challenge; their final stretch otherwise avoids the league’s top teams. How each of these schedules plays out in the closing weeks will determine who secures safety and who faces relegation.
