Nottingham Forest part company with Sean Dyche as Vitor Pereira emerges as leading option
Forest sacked Sean Dyche after a goalless draw; Vitor Pereira is being lined up as a replacement….
Nottingham Forest confirmed the dismissal of Sean Dyche in the early hours of Thursday after a goalless draw with rock-bottom Wolves. The match was notable for Forest attempting 35 shots without scoring, described in the report as the most recorded by any Premier League side without scoring since 2016.
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” the club said in a short statement issued three hours after kick off, half an hour after midnight U.K. time. “We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”
The club’s search for a replacement is already under way. The appointment would represent Forest’s fourth permanent manager of the 2025–26 campaign. The season began under Nuno Espírito Santo, who led Forest to a 3–1 opening-weekend win over Brentford and covered the first three matches before leaving in September following a strained relationship with club owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Ange Postecoglou followed, but his spell was brief. He lost his debut to Arsenal and, across eight matches in charge, lost six and drew two. His tenure of 39 days is noted as the second-shortest managerial reign in Premier League history. Sean Dyche remained almost four months and, during his time at the club, racked up 22 points in 18 Premier League games, a record described as the 12th-best in the division. He departed with Forest in 17th, three points above a resurgent West Ham United inside the relegation zone.
A simple manager summary included in the report lists Nuno Espírito Santo with three 2025–26 games and one win, Ange Postecoglou with eight matches and no wins, and Sean Dyche with 25 games and 10 wins.
Forest have reportedly opened talks with former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Vitor Pereira, who is thought to be a “strong candidate,” as first reported by The Athletic. Pereira steered Wolves clear of the drop last season and became known to supporters for going to local pubs after victories. “First the points, then the points” became Pereira’s catchphrase. He left Wolves in November after failing to win any of his first 10 matches in charge and has been out of work since.
Man City
Why City Are Best Placed to Win the Elliot Anderson Transfer
Man City may have the advantage in the Elliot Anderson chase as United signal a strict price cap…
Elliot Anderson has emerged as one of the summer’s most contested midfield targets, with Manchester City and Manchester United reportedly leading the chase for the Nottingham Forest player. The 23-year-old England international is valued highly by his club and the wider market, and the price being discussed could decide where he lands.
Forest are understood to be asking in excess of £100 million, with some outlets placing the fee as high as £125 million, a figure that would match the British transfer record set last summer by Liverpool for Alexander Isak. Dollar conversions cited in reporting place those numbers at roughly $135.1 million and $168.9 million respectively.
BBC Sport reports that Manchester United have taken a cautious stance, insisting they will “not overpay” for Anderson or other targets this summer. The club would reportedly “won’t pursue” the midfielder if a fee sits around £120 million. United’s hierarchy is said to feel that “Every player’s value has a cap, no matter how well regarded they are.” The same reporting adds the club’s leaders are “confident” there are other options available who can “improve what they already have.”
That financial caution is compounded by uncertainty around the Old Trafford dugout. Michael Carrick remains the frontrunner to continue in the role after overseeing the club’s recent resurgence and return to the Champions League, but no appointment has been confirmed. The lack of clarity over the manager could make recruitment more difficult.
Those factors leave Manchester City in a strong position. City are repeatedly prepared to meet high fees for targets and have a recent record of prevailing in tight transfer races, with examples cited including Marc Guéhi and Antoine Semenyo. Even if a record fee is not required, City’s capacity to offer immediate prospects of silverware under Pep Guardiola makes them an attractive destination for a player seeking quick success.
Anderson’s eventual destination may come down to whether Forest’s asking price and United’s self-imposed limits align, and whether a managerial decision at Old Trafford is reached early in the summer.
Gameweek 34
Standouts of Premier League Gameweek 34: Ratings and Key Numbers
A seven-day Gameweek saw shocks and standout displays, with Forest, City and Brighton stars in form.
A week stretched across seven days by the FA Cup semifinals produced a sequence of decisive performances in Premier League Gameweek 34. FotMob ratings highlight a group of players whose contributions shaped results.
Nottingham Forest’s 5–0 win over Sunderland produced one of the round’s biggest shocks and Igor Jesus was central to it (rating: 8.4). The Brazilian striker played 67 minutes, touched the ball 19 times, the fewest among Forest’s starters, yet returned a goal, an assist and a deflected strike that became an own goal.
Fulham’s 1–0 victory over Aston Villa provided a timely boost for the Cottagers (rating: 8.4). Home possession was just 39 percent, and Joachim Andersen led Fulham defensively with four tackles, four interceptions and seven clearances.
Brighton’s 3–0 win over Chelsea began the round emphatically and Ferdi Kadıoğlu was one of the standout performers (rating: 8.5). The left back opened the scoring and finished the match leading both for shots on target with three and interceptions with three.
Manchester City’s 1–0 win at Burnley featured strong creative work from Rayan Cherki (rating: 8.5), who created eight chances, the most of any player. Bernardo Silva (rating: 8.6) was the closest to Cherki’s creativity with seven chances created and has recently adapted into a deeper role, combining that passing with a team-high 12 defensive contributions. His departure this summer is going to hit City far harder than most realize.
Morgan Gibbs-White starred again for Nottingham Forest (rating: 8.6). He required one shot to score and created one chance that became an assist, following a three-goal game the previous week.
Burnley faced an intense Manchester City attack with 28 shots; Martin Dúbravka (rating: 8.7) conceded once but made eight saves and prevented a total expected goals of 2.16.
Alexis Mac Allister produced one of the top individual displays in Liverpool’s 3–1 win over Crystal Palace (rating: 8.7). After an assist for Alexander Isak’s opening goal, he added a second assist with a delicate touch for Florian Wirtz in stoppage time.
Leeds United

Spurs’ win was not enough as West Ham, Forest and Leeds all picked up points in tight run-in. ahead.
Tottenham Hotspur’s first Premier League win of 2026 failed to pull them out of the relegation zone as West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United all collected points in midweek. Nottingham Forest demolished Sunderland 5–0 to record three wins from their last four, maintaining a five-point cushion over 18th-placed Spurs. Leeds remain focused on their FA Cup semifinal against Chelsea on Sunday, and Sean Longstaff’s 97th-minute equalizer against Bournemouth midweek kept their survival hopes alive.
Spurs sit on 34 points, West Ham on 36, Nottingham Forest on 39 and Leeds on 40. The final four fixtures carry heavy significance for each club.
Tottenham
– Aston Villa (A) – May 3
– Burnley (H) – May 1
– Chelsea (A) – May 4
– Everton (H) – May 24
Winning against Wolves was an obligation for Tottenham, but the weekend trip to Aston Villa is a far sterner test. A crucial home meeting with Leeds follows and then an away match at Stamford Bridge. Di Zerbi’s side conclude at home to Everton in a fixture described as likely to determine their fate.
West Ham
– Brentford (A) – May 2
– Arsenal (H) – May 10
– Newcastle (H) – May 10
– Leeds (H) – May 11
West Ham will take confidence from an agonizing win against Everton and seven points from their last three. Brentford, winless since February, present a winnable game, before a daunting home match with Arsenal and an away day at Newcastle. The season ends at the London Stadium against Leeds.
Nottingham Forest
Forest travel to Stamford Bridge next weekend, a match sandwiched by a Europa League semifinal tie against Aston Villa. They then host Newcastle before travelling to Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the penultimate weekend. Forest will hope safety is secure by the time Bournemouth visit the City Ground in the final match.
Leeds United
Leeds aim to be FA Cup finalists by the time they host Championship-bound Burnley, a match that offers a valuable opportunity to collect three points and move closer to Premier League survival.
