Agent Arrested After Alleged Firearm Threat to Premier League Player
An agent has been arrested after an alleged firearm threat against a Premier League player. More info.
A football agent has been arrested after a Premier League player reported being threatened with a firearm following an altercation on a busy north London street.
The Telegraph reports the agent, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has worked with players operating at international level and that the player in question is an established Premier League regular. The incident was reported to police late on a Saturday evening in early September.
“Police were called at 23.14hrs on Saturday, 6 September, to reports a man in his 20s had been threatened with a firearm on Cockfosters Parade, Barnet,” a Metropolitan Police statement confirmed.
The force said their enquiries identified a second alleged victim. “Officers spoke to the victim and during the course of their investigation it was also reported another man in his 20s had also allegedly been blackmailed and threatened by the same individual. No injuries were reported in either incident.
“A 31-year-old man was arrested on Monday, 8 September on suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a licence. He has been bailed while enquiries continue.”
A source speaking to The Sun described the impact on the player and the wider business side of football. “This was a terrifying incident and one which has sent shockwaves through the business side of football. The player was understandably shaken up—to have threats made against you with a gun is shocking.
“He reported it right away. It was the right thing to do for his safety. He has been supported by his friends and club and they all hope it will not impact his performances. But there will be serious questions about why this happened, which the police are now trying to answer.”
The story highlights the off-field role agents play in the modern game. A football agent traditionally takes care of all off-field matters, namely contract negotiations, sponsorships and even the managing of social media accounts on the likes of Instagram, X and TikTok. They make the majority of their money by earning commission from transfers, often bringing in the help of intermediaries to help facilitate and flush out potential deals.
Agents can work individually or as part of a wider agency. Jorge Mendes and Rafaela Pimenta are named in discussions about prominent agents; the draft notes Pimenta took on the client base of Mino Raiola after his passing in April 2022, and that Cristiano Ronaldo and Erling Haaland are among the high-profile players associated with leading agents.

Sir Alex Ferguson taken to hospital before United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool
Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital from Old Trafford before United’s 3-2 win over Liverpool.
Sir Alex Ferguson was taken to hospital from Old Trafford on Sunday before Manchester United’s Premier League match against Liverpool. The former manager had been meeting guests at the stadium, including cardiologist Dr. Aseem Malhotra, who posted a photograph with Ferguson on social media.
Malhotra wrote on X: “A privilege, honour and dream come true to be invited to spend some quality time with Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of the game against Liverpool today at Old Trafford.” It is not clear how soon after that meeting Ferguson was transported to hospital; he did not attend the game.
Ferguson missed Manchester United’s chaotic 3–2 victory, a match decided by Kobbie Mainoo’s 77th-minute strike. Mainoo celebrated a recent contract extension after scoring the match-winner.
Manchester United have yet to issue a formal statement on Ferguson’s condition. The Athletic reported the club described the situation as “not a medical emergency.” BBC Sport echoed that line and said club officials are “optimistic” Ferguson will soon be “fit enough” to return home.
Ferguson is widely regarded as the greatest manager in Premier League history. He guided Manchester United to 13 Premier League titles during a 27-year tenure and led the club to two Champions League triumphs. The 1998–99 season produced a treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League titles, a feat not repeated by an English club until Manchester City in 2023. Pep Guardiola and Manchester City currently hold six Premier League titles.
Some observers noted past health concerns. In 2018 Ferguson suffered a brain hemorrhage that required emergency surgery. He recalled that episode in his documentary Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In, and said, “All of my life I have appreciated the NHS, none more so with that experience, they were fantastic. And I owe it to them really.”

Mainoo’s Finish Seals United’s 3–2 Victory Over Liverpool and Champions League Return
Kobbie Mainoo’s strike completed United’s 3–2 win over Liverpool and secured Champions League spot..
Manchester United confirmed their place in next season’s Champions League with a 3–2 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. The match was a study in contrasts: an electric opening for the hosts, a period of self-inflicted chaos, and a decisive final act.
Matheus Cunha profited from slack defending in the early exchanges, his shot sneaking past Freddie Woodman after a crucial Alexis Mac Allister deflection. Cunha’s goal was his ninth league strike of the season; it followed his previous match-winning effort at Chelsea where he scored the only goal. Earlier in the campaign Cunha also scored against Arsenal, Leeds United and Aston Villa.
United soon doubled their lead through Benjamin Šeško, who converted after Freddie Woodman fingertipped a Bruno Fernandes header onto the lurking Slovenian. The second goal underwent VAR review amid suggestions of a handball, but the Premier League Match Center said there was ”no conclusive evidence” to rule that Šeško had handled the ball. The decision left Liverpool feeling aggrieved and surprised observers in the stands.
Liverpool, already missing Mohamed Salah, were dealt another blow when Alexander Isak was ruled out with a groin injury sustained in training. With several forwards unavailable, Arne Slot reverted to a 4-2-4-esque setup featuring two false nines. The visitors took advantage of two United errors after the restart, enjoying a strong 15-minute spell and temporarily pinning the hosts back.
Kobbie Mainoo was outstanding in the first half, winning duels and driving United in transition. Despite an uneven second half in which United’s midfielders were often caught ahead of the ball, Mainoo produced a superb finish from the edge of the area to settle the contest and complete United’s first double over Liverpool in a decade.
Bryan Mbeumo, the Cameroonian who had been a key source of goals earlier in the season, was bright in this match as well. Overall, United earned the win in an open, entertaining game that underlined both their attacking strengths and moments of vulnerability.

Isak Suffers Groin Setback but Slot Insists Recovery Will Be Short
Isak has suffered a groin setback after returning from a broken leg; Slot expects a short layoff…
Alexander Isak’s first months on Merseyside have been disrupted by injury and interrupted preparation. A disrupted preseason and a broken leg have prevented the striker enjoying a smooth debut campaign after his rise at St. James’ Park. He only recently returned from that major leg injury and, after a few sluggish outings, had appeared to be finding momentum again.
Isak scored his first Premier League goal at Anfield since he donned Saudi green for the Magpies, but he has suffered a fresh groin problem in training. The first reports of the issue emerged on Saturday and the knock was enough to rule him out of Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford. That absence followed a significant injury sustained at Tottenham Hotspur before Christmas, which ruled him out for the best part of four months.
Arne Slot spoke to Sky Sports before kick-off to outline the immediate impact on his squad and to express his frustration. He said: “After our last win against Palace, you go into the week and in the start you already know you’re going to miss out on Mo [Salah], and then during the week we miss out on Alex as well.
“But that’s not the first time this season. Arsenal away, we had our both No. 9s not available as well and we were able to play a good game. So, it is the situation to accept it.
“Of course, very unlucky and unhappy with the fact Alex picked up a small—really small—injury,” Slot fretted. “That’s why this game came a bit too early.”
Reports underline that the latest problem is not on the scale of his broken leg, and Slot has been optimistic about a swift recovery for his costly recruit. Isak had dealt with a few nagging issues at Newcastle, and those problems have not ceased since his move. Despite the setback and with just three Premier League games remaining, these comments suggest Isak’s season may still continue.
