Gameweek 36
How Tottenham and West Ham’s final three fixtures stack up in the relegation fight
Spurs sit one point above West Ham with three games left; fixtures and timing could decide survival.
With three matches remaining, Tottenham occupy 17th on 37 points, a single point clear of 18th-placed West Ham on 36. Spurs have turned a corner in recent weeks, recording two wins on the spin, but there is no margin for error under former Brighton & Hove Albion and Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi.
The tight finish intensifies on gameweek 36. West Ham take the field first on Sunday before Tottenham play on Monday night, leaving the Lilywhites to react to the earlier result and whatever pressure it creates.
Tottenham (17th, 37 points)
Leeds (H) – May 11, 8 p.m. BST / 3 p.m. ET
Chelsea (A) – May 19, 8.15 p.m. BST / 3.15 p.m. ET
Everton (H) – May 24, 4 p.m. BST / 11 a.m. ET
West Ham (18th, 36 points)
Arsenal (H) – May 10, 4.30 p.m. BST / 11.30 a.m. ET
Newcastle (A) – May 17, 5.30 p.m. BST / 12.30 p.m. ET
Leeds (H) – May 24, 4 p.m. BST / 11 a.m. ET
Tottenham supporters are reminded of past seasons when they have backed Arsenal to disrupt title races, and there is a clear incentive for Spurs fans to support the Gunners on Sunday. A victory for Mikel Arteta’s side would significantly ease Spurs’ task ahead of a home match with Leeds that could arrive against a side with little left to play for.
For West Ham, a positive result on Sunday could have wider consequences. A result for West Ham could hand Manchester City the title, despite their slip-up at Everton, which in turn would make Tottenham’s pursuit of safety considerably more difficult.
Spurs then travel to Stamford Bridge in midweek after Chelsea’s FA Cup final with Manchester City, a fixture that will bring memories of the “Battle of the Bridge,” when Chelsea recovered from 2–0 down to earn the point that sealed the title for Leicester City a decade ago.

Gameweek 36: Predictions and the decisive weekend in the Premier League
Gameweek 36 predictions: how title and relegation battles could shift across a decisive weekend. GW36
Gameweek 36 arrives with the title race and relegation battle closely entwined, producing a weekend of high stakes across the division.
Liverpool host Chelsea in a fixture heavy with history but fragile form. Chelsea arrive having lost six consecutive league games and were comprehensively beaten by a heavily rotated Nottingham Forest side on Monday. Arne Slot’s soon-to-be-dethroned champions have shown similar frailties this term, while Liverpool likely need just a point to secure Champions League football. Last week’s defeat at Old Trafford leaves Liverpool with questions, so a competitive affair looks likely. Prediction: Liverpool 1–1 Chelsea.
Brighton travel to Wolves, a tie with relegation context. Wolves had shown signs of recovery under Rob Edwards but recent momentum has stalled. They earned a point at home to Sunderland after three straight defeats, and remain without an away win in the Premier League this season. Brighton seek to respond to a poor result on Tyneside and recently extended Fabian Hürzeler’s contract, aiming to justify that faith with European qualification. Prediction: Brighton 2–0 Wolves.
Fulham host Bournemouth, who have remained unbeaten since parting ways with Antoine Semenyo in January and sit sixth. Fulham have been generally meek on the road but possess the sixth-best home record, with 10 wins from 17. Both clubs still harbour continental hopes, making this a tight contest. Prediction: Fulham 1–1 Bournemouth.
Manchester United travel to Sunderland after completing a first league double over Liverpool in a decade and sealing Champions League qualification. Sunderland are winless in three and conceded five to Forest at home previously. United have won the last three meetings, including 2–0 in the reverse fixture, and will be without suspended Dan Ballard. Prediction: Sunderland 0–1 Man Utd.
Manchester City welcome Brentford aiming to apply pressure on Arsenal after Jérémy Doku’s stoppage-time equaliser salvaged a point. City can push the title race back on Arsenal by beating Brentford, a side that has won at the Etihad since Covid. Prediction: Man City 3–1 Brentford.
Other selections: Burnley 0–1 Aston Villa, Crystal Palace 0–2 Everton, Nott’m Forest 2–2 Newcastle, West Ham 1–2 Arsenal and Tottenham 2–1 Leeds. Across the weekend the ties could produce decisive movement in both the title fight and relegation zone.
