North-west scramble, Camavinga chase and a string of high-fee approaches
North-west clubs contest multiple targets: Camavinga chase, Enzo request, big fees and clauses. soon
The transfer market around the north-west is crowded and competitive, with several clubs pursuing the same targets. That overlap of interest is not limited to Akliouche, and it is producing late-window complexity across multiple positions.
Liverpool have held talks with the agent of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, a player reportedly identified by Bruno Fernandes as his ideal successor at Manchester United. Chelsea face unrest in midfield after Enzo Fernández prepared to hand in a transfer request, though Real Madrid’s chances are complicated by an asking price approaching $173.2 million (£130.8 million, €150 million).
In the north-west, Manchester City are widely reported to have won the race for Elliot Anderson, with a fee believed to be about $86 million (£65 million) for the Nottingham Forest midfielder once admired by Manchester United. Any club interested in Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero would be expected to pay around $57.6 million (£43.5 million).
Elsewhere, Juventus have been linked to former Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez after he fell out of favour at Al Hilal. Arsenal are preparing an offer for Barcelona playmaker Dani Olmo, with the Catalan club thought willing to accept $69.3 million (£52.3 million, €60 million). Brendan Rodgers’s Al Qadsiah were reportedly ready to match that fee and offer Olmo $11 million (£8.3 million, €9.5 million) per year, an approach the midfielder rejected.
Bayern Munich have identified Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel as a potential Manuel Neuer replacement, while Chelsea and Newcastle United have shown interest. Chelsea are also monitoring Barcelona fullback Jules Kounde, who, despite signing a new contract, could be available for about $57.7 million.
Liverpool are prioritising a new contract for Ibrahima Konaté but could trigger a $92.4 million (£69.8 million, €80 million) buyback clause in Jarell Quansah’s Bayer Leverkusen deal. A €100 million approach from Chelsea for Barcelona midfielder Fermín López is expected to be refused by the club president, who deemed him “untouchable.”
Manchester United, Chelsea and Juventus are all linked with Eduardo Camavinga, priced near $57.7 million (£43.6 million, €50 million), with Liverpool reported to be leading that race. With playing time limited, Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó has asked his representatives to field offers from other clubs.

United to Stay in Europe for 2026-27 Preseason; Nordic Tour Confirmed
United will stay in Europe for their 2026-27 preseason, scheduling a Nordic tour and Dublin friendly
Manchester United will remain in Europe for the first time in 24 years after announcing their 2026-27 preseason fixtures. With this summer’s World Cup sending most of the squad to the United States, Canada and Mexico, the club has decided to keep the team in Europe.
United confirmed earlier this month that their summer would end with a friendly against Leeds United in Dublin on Aug. 12, and four further fixtures have been revealed. The schedule includes:
– Wrexham, July 18, Helsinki, Finland
– Rosenborg, July 24, Trondheim, Norway
– Atlético Madrid, Aug. 1, Stockholm, Sweden
– PSG, Aug. 8, Gothenberg, Sweden
– Leeds United, Aug. 12, Dublin, Republic of Ireland
“Following the announcement of our match against Leeds United in Dublin, we’re excited to confirm four more preseason fixtures in the Nordics,” director of football Jason Wilcox said. “We’re delighted to be playing in some fantastic cities, against opponents who will provide a strong test for us.
“We have the best fans in the world, and this schedule gives us a great opportunity to connect with our supporters across Europe. We’re really looking forward to getting out there and putting in the hard work ahead of a big season.”
The timing of the World Cup has created a cramped calendar. Players will have limited rest between the end of the domestic season and the tournament, which begins on June 11. Those who progress deeply in the World Cup will remain active until mid-July, almost three weeks after United usually start preseason training at their Carrington home base.
That congestion is underlined by the fact United’s first friendly, against Wrexham in Finland, takes place one day before the World Cup final. The club has acknowledged that a reduced squad will travel for that fixture.

Tactical Retreat: Slot’s Back-Five Sees Liverpool Outplayed by PSG in 2–0 First Leg
Slot’s side switched to a back-five and were outplayed by PSG in a 2–0 first-leg defeat and doubts.
Arne Slot’s second season has hardened into a campaign defined by caution and awkward compromises. The Premier League winning manager, who once criticised opponents for defending in low blocks and relying on long balls and set pieces, adopted a back-five for only the second time in his Liverpool tenure against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday evening. The change coincided with a 2–0 first-leg defeat.
Slot had shown open frustration earlier in the season after a narrow FA Cup win over Barnsley, accusing the third-tier side of altering their approach. “We’ve played 30 games this season and I’d say 28 of my prematch meetings, I could just throw in the bin,” he said at the time.
Against PSG the Reds struggled to create. Liverpool managed three off-target shots across the entire contest and none in the first half. The PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov “didn’t dirty his gloves once.” Slot conceded the team spent much of the evening on the back foot. “We were in survival mode for large parts of the game. But maybe also in the period of the season where we were in survival mode,” he said. “PSG was the better team,” he added. “But we didn’t give up and that’s why we have a chance now still in this tie.”
Slot kept Mohamed Salah on the bench, explaining his decision: “In the last part of the game it was more about surviving us than having a chance,” and:
“I think this was a 20–25 minutes where we only defending and Mo has so many qualities, but to be 20–25 minutes defending in his own box, I think it is better for him to save his energy for games coming up.
“Because they kept us alive by not scoring a few open chances. And now we can bring the tie back to Anfield. Not unfortunately, but in between there’s still a very important game to be played for us against Fulham. Just in terms of the system, you’ve not used it before.”
PSG coach Luis Enrique said to Canal+ that he had not expected the formation change: “It’s a surprise because it’s the first time Arne Slot has played with three at the back this year,” and later told TNT Sports, “Arne Slot is a great coach.”
Reaction from pundits was sharp. Jamie Carragher told CBS Sports: “That was like watching a team from a lower division.” Steven Gerrard noted Liverpool had frustrated PSG “for large periods of the game,” but judged the attack “toothless.”

Summer transfer snapshot: loan approaches, swaps and priority targets across clubs
Transfer links and swap proposals affecting Premier League clubs, Europe and notable players. Today.
A round-up of the latest transfer developments covers a wide set of enquiries, proposed swaps and target lists circulating this window.
River Plate have approached Manchester United over Alejandro Garnacho as they attempt to bring him back to his homeland. Chelsea are reported to be interested in facilitating a one-year loan for the winger.
Paris Saint-Germain are cautious about losing Bradley Barcola to Arsenal and would consider replacing him with Chelsea youngster Estêvão. A bid of $116 million (€100 million, £87 million) is being prepared for that move.
Arsenal are concerned about Gabriel Martinelli’s contract and will reluctantly listen to offers for the winger to raise funds for a replacement. The Gunners have also been linked with Como centre back Jacobo Ramón, for whom Real Madrid retain a buy-back clause.
Galatasaray hope to sign Mohamed Salah on a free transfer and envisage reuniting him with his Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk. A swap proposal involving versatile right back Roland Sallai has been put forward as one option.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has identified Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford as a primary target and remains hopeful the England international could join even if Spurs are relegated.
Manchester United are monitoring Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana as a potential alternative to Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson. United are also preparing for an overhaul in goal, with André Onana expected to depart and the exit possibly to include deputy Altay Bayındır.
Harry Maguire turned down an offer from Inter Miami and agreed a contract renewal with Manchester United, with the centre back expressing a desire to finish his career at Old Trafford.
Newcastle United are reported to be more likely than Chelsea to complete a deal for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
West Ham United are tracking Palmeiras striker Heittor Vinicius, 18, in an attempt to reach terms before the teenager has made his senior debut.
Real Madrid are pursuing Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister and are exploring a swap that would send Eduardo Camavinga to Anfield. Chelsea have formally approached Real Madrid over winger Vinicius Junior amid concerns Madrid would prefer to sell rather than risk losing him for free in 18 months.
Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has asked his agent to open discussions with Barcelona about a future transfer.
