Sterling poised for permanent London exit as Fulham emerges as likely destination
Sterling has turned down West Ham and is reportedly hoping for a permanent move to Fulham in London.
Raheem Sterling appears to be holding out for a permanent move away from Chelsea, according to a report in The Times. The former Manchester City and Liverpool forward is said to have turned down a winter loan to West Ham United in “the hopes” of securing a different route out of Stamford Bridge.
Enzo Maresca, referred to in the report as Sterling’s chief jailor, has since left Stamford Bridge, and Sterling now looks set to push for fresh permanent options. He still has 18 months remaining on a lucrative Chelsea contract and would “prefer” to remain in London, the report adds.
With Crystal Palace pursuing Brennan Johnson, Fulham have been identified as Sterling’s most likely suitors. It remains uncertain whether Fulham would have the funds to complete a transfer for a position they reinforced in the summer. The article notes that “Kevin was acquired from Shakhtar Donetsk for a club-record €40 million (£34.9 million, $46.9 million) to counteract Willian’s departure. The 22-year-old is still being eased into the rigours of Premier League football and boasts just six top-flight starts this season. That is, of course, six more than Sterling, who hasn’t even been training with Chelsea’s first team during these long months of isolation.”
The Times report adds that Sterling has not ruled out a move abroad; Napoli and Bayern Munich were thought to have shown interest last summer. Sterling’s rejection of West Ham could indirectly clear the way for Fulham, and the Hammers are expected to redirect their attention after being jilted by “a player with 123 Premier League goals to his name.”
West Ham are reported to be considering alternatives, with Adama Traore mentioned as a potential target. The Barcelona academy graduate has struggled for minutes, registering just one Premier League start this campaign and failing to replicate the form he enjoyed alongside Raúl Jiménez at Wolves.

Palmer Sent Off as Chelsea Collapse to Tottenham at Home
Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Tottenham after an own goal, Palmer’s red card and a late strike.
Chelsea’s home derby against Tottenham ended in frustration and disarray as the visitors secured a deserved 2-0 victory, handing Chelsea only their second home league defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in 36 years.
The contest was effectively lost in stages. Chelsea struggled to create clear openings after the restart, but the decisive blows arrived when a comical own goal from Mike Penders, making his first Premier League start, put Tottenham in front. Soon after, Cole Palmer was dismissed for two quick yellow cards, leaving Chelsea with an even steeper hill to climb. The first booking followed a petulant push on Mateus Fernandes, an action that might easily have brought a straight red, while the second came from an unnecessary challenge on Conor Gallagher.
Any lingering hope of a late rescue disappeared three minutes from time when Mathys Tel produced a superb solo finish to settle the match and leave Chelsea with their third Premier League defeat of the season.
Chelsea entered the derby having already shown how much they miss Pedro. Before Saturday, they had played only one league match without him this season, and that ended in a 3-0 defeat to Brentford. His eight goal involvements have been central to their attack, but his value goes beyond numbers. He provides the focal point for Xabi Alonso’s fluid 3-4-2-1 shape, linking with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers.
Without him, Chelsea lacked clarity and cohesion. Alonso chose Morgan Rogers at No. 9, with Palmer and Geovany Quenda close behind, but the first half brought only four shots and 0.25 expected goals. The manager waited until the 72nd minute to turn to Estêvão, yet the overall pattern did not change. Danny Welbeck arrived too late to influence proceedings.
There are now obvious questions for Alonso, especially how to structure his attack without Pedro, whose return date is still unknown.

Joao Pedro left out as Chelsea reshape attack for Tottenham clash
Chelsea face Tottenham without João Pedro, with scans pending after a fresh injury concern.
Chelsea will face Tottenham in Saturday’s London derby without leading scorer João Pedro in the matchday squad.
Morgan Rogers has been handed the central striking role for Chelsea, while Geovany Quenda comes into the XI for his first Premier League start on the left wing. Pedro’s absence is the major talking point, with Chelsea yet to offer a formal explanation for leaving him out.
Kieran Gill reported that the striker has picked up an injury and will need further scans. That comes after a knee issue ruled him out of the 3-0 defeat to Brentford before the international break and also kept him out of the Brazil squad during the September-October window. He did, however, return immediately afterwards.
Pedro responded with two goals against Bournemouth, before drawing a blank against Everton in his most recent appearance. He played 92 minutes in that match before being replaced by Welbeck in the closing stages. There had been no obvious sign of a problem, and Alonso did not refer to any issue in his prematch press conference.
Malo Gusto is back in the squad after illness, but Pep Chavarría remains unavailable through injury. Emiliano Martínez is also missing after undergoing surgery on a broken jaw sustained last time out, and Mike Penders comes in for the Argentine.
Summer signing Emmanuel Emegha is still not ready for selection. The former Strasbourg man was injured in preseason, though he is believed to be nearing a delayed debut. With Pedro unexpectedly absent, his return would have been a useful option for this match, but it will not come against Spurs.

Martinez Set for Several Weeks Out as Chelsea Turn to Penders
Chelsea will rely on Mike Penders after Emiliano Martínez’s emergency surgery and concussion.
Chelsea have been handed a clear setback after Emiliano Martínez required emergency surgery on a fractured jaw suffered against Everton last weekend. Xabi Alonso stopped short of offering a firm comeback date, saying the goalkeeper should be back in “a few weeks.”
Martínez also posted from the hospital after the operation and gave the same broad assessment of his recovery, saying he would be “back in a few weeks.” Alonso confirmed that the injury was not limited to the jaw issue, adding that Martínez suffered a concussion. Under English Football Association rules, that means he is ruled out for at least 14 days.
Speaking on the eve of Saturday’s London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, Alonso said the goalkeeper was progressing well but still needed time.
“He’s doing better,” Alonso said. “He had the surgery, and day by day, he’s feeling better, but we still need to wait.”
“Few weeks, few weeks,” he repeated about Martínez’s projected return. “Hopefully less than more, but we need to wait. The good thing is that he’s feeling better and that he wants to listen to his feelings, the opinion of the doctors, the specialists, the surgeons. Considering it was a bad one, he’s doing good.”
With Martínez unavailable, 21-year-old Mike Penders is set to take over for Chelsea in the coming matches. The Belgian made his first Premier League appearance when he replaced Martínez late against Everton, producing one save as Chelsea recorded their first clean sheet of the league season.
Penders began the campaign as Robert Sánchez’s deputy and remained second choice after Martínez arrived and Sánchez moved on to Como. Chelsea have long viewed him as a major talent after signing him as a teenager in the summer of 2024, and Alonso believes he is ready for the step up.
“He’s ready,” Alonso stated. “He’s been training well, he’s played a couple of cup games where he showed that he has a good level, even the day when he came on against Everton, in a few minutes he showed his personality, his qualities. That’s why we have a squad to be ready for these kinds of situations, and we are fully convinced that Mike can play very well.”
Alonso also said Penders is a goalkeeper for both the present and the future, and noted the support he has received by working alongside Martínez. The comparison to Thibaut Courtois has also been made before, with Alonso again underlining the similarities in size, style and left-footedness.
