Andoni Iraola has set out a clear early agenda at Liverpool, making retention of Curtis Jones a stated priority as he prepares to reshape the squad. Iraola took the job after Arne Slot’s departure and arrives following three strong seasons with Bournemouth, a period that delivered the club’s maiden European berth and a finish three points behind Liverpool.
Liverpool’s summer has already seen the exit of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konaté. The club’s near £450 million splurge last summer failed to deliver the expected stability, a disappointment that preceded the managerial change and Chelsea’s decision to appoint Xabi Alonso after an earlier approach.
Curtis Jones, who is 25 and entering the final year of his contract, has attracted concrete interest from Inter Milan. Reports indicate Liverpool rejected a third offer from the Scudetto holders said to be worth €32 million (£27.3 million, $36.6 million). The club is understood to be holding out for at least €40 million (£34.2 million, $45.7 million). Iraola has been unequivocal about his preference to keep the midfielder.
Speaking to assembled media for the first time since taking the job, Iraola said of Jones: “I will have the chance to speak with him today [Monday]. I rate Curtis very highly. For me, he is a great, great player, and I hope he can continue with us and continue performing the way he has been performing.”
On Jones’s character and ties to the club, Iraola added: “From the outside, at least, he looks like a player with good character, and I hope we can keep him, not only for this year but for more time.”
Iraola has also been frank about the wider transfer task, noting the squad needs strengthening despite recent additions. “Obviously we’ve signed two players already, but we need more players ; we know this,” he told reporters. “The club is working on this.”
The two signings referenced are young centre back Jérémy Jacquet and Spanish international Victor Muñoz, who joined this summer for a combined £94.5 million. Iraola’s opening weeks will be defined by how successfully he balances retention of homegrown talent with further recruitment.

October Premier League award nominees announced

The Premier League has named the contenders for its October 2026 Player and Manager of the Month awards, with eight players and six managers included on the respective shortlists.
Bournemouth forward Evanilson enjoyed a productive month, finishing October with four goals and one assist from four appearances as his team beat Sunderland, Manchester United and Leeds United after a slow opening to the season.
Aston Villa striker Nicolas Jackson also reached four goals in the month. The former Chelsea player scored twice in the 2-1 win over Manchester City and also found the net in draws against Brentford and Fulham.
Arsenal are represented by Ezri Konsa and Declan Rice after a perfect month. Konsa impressed in defence while William Saliba was absent, keeping two clean sheets in three outings and scoring his first goal for the club. Rice contributed two important assists at the other end.
Jack Rudoni’s form has helped Coventry City. The newly promoted side took two wins from four matches in October, with Rudoni scoring three times as they moved further away from the relegation zone.
Tottenham Hotspur also had an unbeaten month, and Jan Paul van Hecke played a key role in wins over Coventry, Chelsea and Crystal Palace. No player attempted or completed more passes than the Dutch defender last month.
