Bruno Fernandes has reached 140 Premier League goal involvements after providing an assist for Manchester United against Brentford, a milestone that places him level with Cristiano Ronaldo in that specific metric.

Since his arrival at the Red Devils in January 2020, Fernandes has now recorded 70 Premier League goals and 70 assists. That combination gives him 140 goal contributions from 226 appearances for United in the competition.

By comparison, Cristiano Ronaldo’s record to the same total required more appearances. It took Ronaldo 233 appearances to record his 140th Premier League goal involvement, seven games more than Fernandes needed. Fernandes’s creativity has been a defining feature of his six-year tenure at United. His next goal involvement will see Fernandes eclipse his international teammate. Forest are understood to be asking in excess of £100 million, with some outlets placing the fee as high as £125 million, a figure that would match the British transfer record set last summer by Liverpool for Alexander Isak. The club would reportedly “won’t pursue” the midfielder if a fee sits around £120 million. That financial caution is compounded by uncertainty around the Old Trafford dugout. The lack of clarity over the manager could make recruitment more difficult.

Those factors leave Manchester City in a strong position. City are repeatedly prepared to meet high fees for targets and have a recent record of prevailing in tight transfer races, with examples cited including Marc Guéhi and Antoine Semenyo. Even if a record fee is not required, City’s capacity to offer immediate prospects of silverware under Pep Guardiola makes them an attractive destination for a player seeking quick success.

Anderson’s eventual destination may come down to whether Forest’s asking price and United’s self-imposed limits align, and whether a managerial decision at Old Trafford is reached early in the summer.

Chelsea have a significant deficit to overturn.
