Agent says issue with Enzo Fernández has been resolved after comments stirred controversy

Pastore: Enzo Fernández apologised after remarks about a city; club and player have cleared the air.

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández was at the centre of a brief controversy after comments during the international break prompted speculation about his future. His agent, Javier Pastore, initially criticised Chelsea’s decision to suspend the Argentina international and suggested Fernández would consider his options at the end of the season. Now Pastore says the matter has been settled and relations with the club have been restored.

“These are statements he made without any intention of causing problems at Chelsea ,” Pastore told Top Mercato . “He’s the captain, one of the team’s leaders, and he’s shown his best form on the pitch this season. He was simply talking about a city.

“Then there were a lot of interviews in a short period where he talked about his future. The media mixed things up and started saying he was going to leave Chelsea. There’s absolutely nothing to it.

“We’re on the same page with Chelsea. We made peace yesterday and the day before between Chelsea and the player. There were never really any problems. We cleared the air.”

Pastore pointed out Fernández did not explicitly name Real Madrid but twice described the city as a dream destination and cited Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos as inspirations. Those remarks were combined with a refusal to publicly commit to Chelsea, which helped fuel the coverage that led to the club’s disciplinary response.

“What happened, happened,” Pastore added. “We explained to the player that, even though he didn’t do anything wrong, he shouldn’t have said that.

“He’s only 25. He’s still young, he still has things to learn. We explained to the club that he said it without malice, that he made a mistake. He naturally apologized to the club, his teammates, the coach, the sporting director, everyone.

“We’re all on the same page. We simply had to clear up the misunderstanding.”

Fernández remains suspended as it stands for the upcoming meeting with Manchester City. Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior is due to speak to the media later this week, and an update on the midfielder’s availability is expected. Pastore did suggest Fernández could return sooner than anticipated. “Chelsea is fighting for its Champions League spot through the Premier League, which is very important for the club,” the agent said.

Chelsea registers updated Mudryk contract as FA process continues

Chelsea registered an updated contract for Mykhailo Mudryk while his FA case remains unresolved….

Chelsea have filed an updated contract for Mykhailo Mudryk while the winger approaches 18 months away from first-team duties following his suspension. The registration comes as the Football Association disciplinary process remains active and without a published timetable.

Mudryk was officially charged by the Football Association in June 2025 and faces a ban of up to four years if found guilty. That prospect has not led to any formal resolution and the player remains in a state of professional uncertainty.

Recent public data on Premier League agent fees pushed Mudryk back into the conversation after many observers had largely forgotten his situation. As per the Daily Mail, Chelsea have updated Mudryk’s deal following his suspension, although it remains unclear what amendments have been made to the forward’s contract. That lack of clarity has compounded questions about the player’s future at the club.

During the lengthy layoff Mudryk has been seen training alone at the home of non-league outfit Uxbridge FC as he seeks to keep fit. There remains no end in sight for Mudryk. The disciplinary process conducted by the FA is ongoing and no timeline over its conclusion has been issued either formally or informally. The winger remains in limbo.

Even the maximum sentence of a four-year ban would not automatically ensure a departure from Chelsea. The player is contracted until 2031, a term reflecting the long deals handed out after BlueCo assumed ownership. Previous cases suggest his 18-month absence would be counted within any formal ban. If Mudryk is ultimately punished, it is possible a mutual agreement to terminate his contract would be reached, but no such outcome has been reported. For now, the update to his registration is the latest administrative development in a case that remains unresolved.

Fernández Remarks Escalate Dressing Room Friction at Chelsea

Comments by Enzo Fernández have reportedly strained Chelsea’s dressing room and prompted criticisms.

Enzo Fernández has become a focal point of unrest inside Chelsea following public comments about Real Madrid and his future.

Sources say prolonged contract talks stalled and a mid-March report from Argentina that the midfielder was open to leaving Chelsea intensified tensions. In the aftermath of Chelsea’s humiliating Champions League elimination, Fernández publicly refused to rule out an exit with the delightfully cryptic response of “we’ll see. ” He pledged his commitment to Chelsea just a few days later after a negative reaction from fans, but reports say he then resumed publicly flirting with Madrid.

Fernández has also questioned the decision to part ways with manager Enzo Maresca in January and, during the international break, is said to have twice mentioned a desire to live in the city of Madrid without naming any club. In an interview with LUZU TV in his native Argentina, Fernández name-dropped Luka Modrić and Toni Kroos as inspirations, a comment whose timing has been questioned inside the squad.

Those inside the dressing room have reportedly been disturbed by what they see as a player of significance casting doubt over his own future. The same reports add Fernández has grown more vocal during a run of defeats, openly berating teammates on the pitch and failing to hide his anger once the cameras are off.

A notable episode came after a mistake by goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen against Paris Saint-Germain, which drew an on-field outburst from Fernández. Former teammates, including Mason Mount and Noni Madueke, have been targeted by on-field taunts and hot-headed moments from Chelsea’s vice-captain. Several within the squad believe those incidents have done more to unsettle the club than the conduct of others.

Mikel John Obi addressed the situation on his Obi One Podcast and did not hold back: “That’s not a leader,” he fumed. “That’s something where if you have leaders, if you have leaders that players respect and look up to, you wouldn’t come out and make those statements because you’d be thinking, ‘How is this going to go down in the dressing room? How is this going to go down with the top players, the big players, when they see this?’

“You were the captain in that game and you come out and make those statements … how would that go down well with the senior players in the dressing room?

“He’s looked at it and he’s thinking, ‘Who the f— is going to hold me responsible in that dressing room?’ No one! The leadership is not there.

“So he thinks, ‘I can come out, say whatever the f— I want, no one is going to hold me responsible,’ and that’s exactly what happened.

“For him to come out and make such a statement after we’ve been disgracefully dumped out of the Champions League, and you come out after wearing the captain’s armband … no player is bigger than the football club.

“If he’s had enough, put your hands up, f— off and we move on. We move on. No player is bigger than the football club, especially a club as huge as Chelsea.”

Why Marc Cucurella Publicly Challenged Chelsea’s Midseason Choices

Cucurella publicly criticised Chelsea’s midseason changes and long-term recruitment strategy. Today.

Published

on

Since BlueCo completed its takeover in 2022, Stamford Bridge has changed off the field while results have lagged. The January exit of Enzo Maresca crystallised growing unrest among supporters and within the squad, with Enzo Fernández publicly expressing disappointment and confusion over the decision.

Marc Cucurella took that frustration further, questioning the timing and the club’s wider direction. “The moment Maresca left, it had a big impact on us,” Cucurella said. “These are decisions taken by the club. If you asked me, I would not have made this decision. To make a change like that, the best thing is to wait until the end of the season. You would give everyone, the players and the new manager, time to get ready, have a full preseason.”

Maresca’s relationship with those above him had been strained since the summer, when he publicly requested a new centre back to replace the injured Levi Colwill and that request was refused. Reports say Maresca grew disenchanted with the sporting directors and decision-makers, accusing them of interfering in his role. The hierarchy opted for a change, and Liam Rosenior was appointed to replace Maresca at a crucial point while the team remained in the race for Champions League qualification.

Cucurella also criticised Chelsea’s transfer philosophy. He highlighted the shift away from senior, experienced signings after the 2022 window in which Todd Boehly played a prominent role in recruitment. That summer saw arrivals including Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Wesley Fofana, Carney Chukwuemeka, Cesare Casadei and Cucurella himself.

“I understand this is part of the club’s policy, and that they want to take this direction—signing young players and looking to the future,” he stressed. “But, for all of us who are still here and want to win big things, moments like this make you feel discouraged.

“We have a good core of players. The foundations are there. But to fight for major trophies such as the Premier League or the Champions League, you need more. Signing young players only might complicate achieving those goals. Against PSG , we lacked players that had gone through situations like that.

“You need time as well, and I know the young players are the ones that will have the experience in the future. But you need to find the balance between both worlds.”

The recruitment model overseen by co-sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, and Joe Shields, has prioritised young talent. There are a few clear positives from the recruitment since 2022, including Cole Palmer and Moisés Caicedo. But several signings have drawn scrutiny and recent results, such as the Champions League loss to PSG following Club World Cup success, have intensified fan protests and anti-Eghbali chants at home games. The board renewed contracts for Winstanley, Stewart, Shields and Sam Jewell in August 2025, even as dissent grew louder.
