Nuno dismisses exit talk and demands reinforcements after Forest draw at Palace

Nuno Espirito Santo moved to shut down speculation about his future after Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace, while underlining an urgent need for summer signings.
The Portuguese, who signed a new contract in June after guiding Forest to European football for the first time since 1995, admitted his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had deteriorated, in part because of the arrival of global head of football Edu Gaspar. Reports suggesting he might leave were rejected outright.
“Absolute nonsense. Absurd. This narrative, it’s absurd,”
retorted Nuno, when asked about the reports.
Pressed on whether he expected to remain in charge when the transfer window closes on September 1, he said: “I cannot answer that question, but what I know is that I am working and trying to do my job the best I can.”
Nuno insisted that a resolution was needed and that a conversation between the parties was the priority. “Of course, the situation has to be solved and we are responsible people. We can have a good conversation to create a good platform for what is more important, the team.
“We’re going to have it. We must. We need to have this conversation and we will have it. This is what I think is more important than anything.”
On the pitch, Callum Hudson-Odoi cancelled out Ismaila Sarr’s opener to earn Forest a draw at Selhurst Park. Nuno flagged a clear recruitment requirement, saying the club need at least three players, including one goalkeeper and two full-backs, to compete across four competitions. Forest are now expected to be in the Europa League as a consequence of Palace’s demotion to the Conference League over multi-club ownership rules.
The match featured banners from Palace supporters celebrating recent silverware, and one banner later criticised UEFA and Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. Chants also referenced John Textor.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner praised his players: “Credit to the players with how they are dealing with the situation,” said Glasner. “Having also the fourth game within two weeks being unbeaten, and in these four games we played Liverpool, Chelsea and Nottingham, three teams from the top seven of last year’s table.
“We know that we can play better football than we did in some parts, especially in the second half, and we know we will do this, but the legs are getting a bit fatigued with many players who played every single minute.
“That’s the situation now and clearly players are dealing well with it, being unbeaten, and I also think a draw is a fair result today.”

Oliver Glasner named Nottingham Forest head coach as the club appoints its fifth manager in a year.
Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Oliver Glasner as their newest manager. The club announced Glasner will take charge as head coach as they prepare for the coming season.
“I’m delighted to join Nottingham Forest as head coach,” Glasner told club channels. “From my very first conversations with the owner and the leadership team, it was evident to me that they have a clear vision for this football club and complete trust and belief in me and my staff to build a strong future together over the long term.

The appointment comes after a turbulent period at the club. Twelve months ago Forest finished seventh in the Premier League and qualified for the Conference League, albeit with disappointment at not reaching the Champions League or Europa League. In September 2025, then-manager Nuno Espírito Santo clashed with owner Evangelos Marinakis and was dismissed.
Ange Postecoglou lasted eight games, Sean Dyche managed 25 matches, and Pereira was given 20 matches to address a relegation battle. Glasner now becomes the fifth permanent manager since the start of the 2025–26 season, with Marinakis believing the team will benefit from hiring a natural “winner.”

Nottingham Forest have dismissed Vitor Pereira despite the manager delivering Premier League safety after arriving in February. Pereira took charge with Forest 17th and three points above the relegation zone, and the side confirmed their survival with two games to spare, finishing five points adrift.
A mutual break clause in Pereira’s contract was triggered just two minutes before it expired at midnight on Tuesday, June 30, a move later confirmed by the club. The Portuguese had a mixed spell: two opening defeats were followed by a seven-game unbeaten run that secured safety. Forest also reached the Europa League semifinals under his management before suffering a heavy defeat to Aston Villa.
Pereira reacted to the decision, saying: “Naturally, I am disappointed and saddened. I truly believed in what we were building together, and I leave with a sense of pride in everything we achieved over the past months.
“I leave Nottingham Forest with no bitterness or resentment—only respect, gratitude and wonderful memories.”
Forest thanked Pereira and his staff in an official statement: “We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Vítor and his team for their hard work and commitment throughout their time at the Club,” part of Forest’s statement read.

Fabrizio Romano is among those to report that Forest will appoint former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as Pereira’s successor. Glasner is remembered as the Eagles’ greatest-ever manager, having guided the club to FA Cup and Conference League glory during his time in south London. He confirmed back in January that he’d be moving on at the end of the 2025–26 season. He had been considered by Manchester United before they stuck with Michael Carrick, and Forest regard the impending appointment of the 51-year-old as a major coup. Glasner is expected to sign a three-year deal at the City Ground.
