Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres has accepted a significant financial penalty after his refusal to train during transfer talks with Arsenal, missing 13 days of sessions. The situation escalated when Gyökeres was spotted on holiday in Mallorca while still under contract obligations, prompting Sporting president Varandas to dock his entire July salary, amounting to around €350,000 (£306,000, $410,000).

Despite this setback, the striker benefited from bonuses accrued during Sporting’s Liga Portugal title-winning campaign and for surpassing 50 combined goals and assists last season, easing the impact of his fine.

Gyökeres is now nearing the completion of a transfer to Arsenal worth an initial €63.5 million (£55.5 million, $74.6 million), with potential bonuses adding €10 million (£8.7 million, $11.7 million) more.
