LAFC Progressing in Transfer Deal for Tottenham Captain Son Heung-min
LAFC advances in talks to sign Tottenham captain Son Heung-min, a major move for MLS.

LAFC is reportedly moving forward in negotiations with Tottenham Hotspur over the potential acquisition of Son Heung-min, the club captain and star forward. This transfer could mark one of the most significant moves in Major League Soccer history. Discussions are ongoing this summer, with Saudi Arabian clubs also showing interest.
A crucial aspect influencing the timing of talks is Tottenham’s upcoming preseason friendly against Newcastle United in South Korea, Son’s home country. Given Son’s commercial importance, it is unlikely that talks will escalate until after this match.
Tottenham is not actively looking to sell Son, who is 33 years old, but will respect his wish to explore new opportunities at this stage of his career. Son missed seven Premier League games last season due to injury, during a disappointing campaign in which Tottenham underperformed in the league, finishing 17th.
Despite league struggles, Tottenham secured a major trophy with a Europa League final victory over Manchester United, ending a 17-year drought. This success has ensured Champions League football for the upcoming season. Manager Ange Postecoglou, who led the team to this triumph, was replaced by former Brentford coach Frank after the season.
Son is entering the final year of his contract. Tottenham is willing to let him decide his future but also values his continued impact on and off the pitch if he remains for the final term.
Over his Tottenham career, Son has made 454 appearances, scoring 173 goals and providing 101 assists, primarily as a left winger. His partnership with Harry Kane was one of European football’s most formidable attacking duos.
For LAFC, pairing Son with Denis Bouanga could enhance their competitiveness heading into the MLS Cup Playoffs, following their decision to end their experiment with Olivier Giroud after the FIFA Club World Cup.

Thomas Frank Confirms Son Heung-min’s Role at Tottenham Despite LAFC Speculation
Thomas Frank praises Son Heung-min’s Tottenham legacy amid LAFC transfer talks, highlighting his role.

Tottenham Hotspur coach Thomas Frank has addressed speculation surrounding Son Heung-min’s future amid strong links to LAFC this summer. Frank emphasized the player’s significant contributions and current commitment to the club.
“I think first and foremost, Son’s legacy here is remarkable. He’s been a fantastic player for Tottenham, he is a fantastic player for Tottenham,” Frank said.
He further highlighted Son’s mindset and preparation heading into the upcoming season. “I see a player that can play a very good role here next season. He’s come in [for pre-season], very good mindset, trained very hard, pushed the players. So I’m excited about it.”
While it has been suggested that the decision regarding Son’s future could ultimately rest with him, no immediate update is expected before Tottenham’s friendly against Newcastle United in South Korea on Sunday. Son’s presence is not only vital on the pitch but also holds substantial marketing value for Tottenham.
Recognized as the biggest name in Asian football, Son’s involvement has enabled Spurs to hold several friendlies in South Korea and other parts of Asia over recent years, including matches in 2022 and 2024, as well as games in China, Singapore, and Japan dating back to 2019.

Tottenham Leads the Pack in Pursuit of Real Madrid’s Rodrygo Amid Premier League Shift
Tottenham emerges as leading candidate to sign Real Madrid winger Rodrygo amidst Premier League shifts.

Tottenham Hotspur has emerged as the frontrunner to sign Real Madrid’s versatile winger Rodrygo after changes in the standing of other Premier League clubs interested in the Brazilian star. Despite playing more matches in the 2024–25 season (53) compared to the previous one (51), Rodrygo’s preferred position on the left wing has rarely been his stage due to tactical decisions by manager Xabi Alonso. This was especially evident during the Club World Cup, fueling speculation around his potential departure this summer.
Multiple Premier League teams had been linked with Rodrygo, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool. However, Chelsea is no longer considered a serious contender, and Liverpool is focused on acquiring Alexander Isak. Arsenal, having strengthened their squad with Viktor Gyökeres and Noni Madueke, remains watchful but appears less aggressive in the race.
Tottenham, meanwhile, seems well-positioned financially and strategically to secure Rodrygo’s signature. Manager Thomas Frank has recently welcomed Mohammed Kudus and secured Mathys Tel on a permanent basis. Nevertheless, with the possibility of Son Heung-min moving to LAFC, Spurs might face a void in their frontline that Rodrygo could potentially fill, enhancing their attacking options.

Tottenham’s Missed Opportunity: The Complex Case of Morgan Gibbs-White’s Contract
Tottenham failed to meet all conditions of Morgan Gibbs-White’s release clause, leading to a new Forest deal.

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White ended in an unexpected turn after a complex release clause in the Nottingham Forest midfielder’s contract was not fully met. Although Spurs reportedly satisfied the monetary value of the clause, several conditions tied to it were not fulfilled, meaning the clause was never triggered. As a result, Forest were under no obligation to accept Spurs’ bid. Furthermore, Forest accused Tottenham of an illegal approach and breach of confidentiality regarding the clause’s disclosure.
The saga culminated with Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis personally overseeing a new contract for Gibbs-White, who extended his stay at the club. Marinakis expressed his displeasure with Spurs’ handling of the situation and stated, “We always win.”
This new deal reportedly lacks a release clause or any provisions for a future transfer. Throughout the negotiations, Gibbs-White maintained professionalism and impeccable conduct.
Nottingham Forest, having secured the midfielder’s services, are still eyeing potential reinforcements, notably Manchester City’s James McAtee.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur will need to revisit their transfer strategy. Interest has shifted to Real Madrid’s forward Rodrygo, who may now be available at a reduced fee owing to his club’s willingness to sell. Thomas Frank’s squad have yet to close their business ahead of the new season.
