It’s always flattering when there’s interest [from other clubs], but it’s always been my idea to stay at Barça, which was my dream, and to succeed here.”
In only two seasons with Barcelona’s first team, Fermín has 19 goals and 11 assists in 90 appearances for the Catalans. He has developed into a valuable option for Flick, offering both energy and quality in the final third. The La Masia graduate’s evident connection to the club was a clear factor in his decision to remain.
“It was very important, because in the end, it’s that for what I’ve always fought for, to be here, to be with Barça. My idea is to continue here, you know in football [soccer] you never know, there are things that don’t depend on you, but my priority has always been to be at Barça,” Fermín finished.
Team-mate Lamine Yamal confirmed the player’s mood amid speculation. “He’s been good, happy as always,” Yamal said . “We jokingly asked him of course what was happening in England, but nothing, he said he wanted to stay, that he was happy and all good.”
The exchange underlines a straightforward outcome to the summer story: interest from England was acknowledged, but López chose to remain and focus on his project at Barcelona.

In September he was called up to the Portugal U21s but was later excused from the group after picking up the problem. “The Chelsea midfielder was excused from training due to a muscle problem in his right thigh, which he suffered after training on Monday,” the Portuguese Football Federation confirmed. “The athlete was evaluated by the Portuguese Football Federation’s Health and Performance Department on Tuesday morning and was declared unavailable.”
Essugo’s planned role this season is to provide cover for Moisés Caicedo. Caicedo’s own international break has been affected by fitness concerns: the Ecuador midfielder sat out his side’s first game and was spotted training with a brace around his knee. The prevailing view within the club was that Caicedo’s absence was more precautionary than the result of a serious issue.

He has been clear about where he prefers to operate on the pitch. “I really enjoy playing as a defensive midfielder,” Santos continued. “I even think it’s my main position, because I grew up as a defensive midfielder. When I moved up to Vasco, it was as a defensive midfielder. At Chelsea, I play a bit further forward, but I feel comfortable playing in both positions.”
Bayern Munich had also been linked as a suitor during the window, but Santos’s public stance is that remaining at Chelsea and competing in the Premier League offers the best pathway to his World Cup objective.
