The summer window closed after a frantic run of deals and deadline-day paperwork. Arsenal entered the market with a single, clear objective: build a squad capable of ending the club’s recent run of near-misses and finally secure major silverware.
In attack the window was shaped by injuries. Kai Havertz’s knee surgery and lengthy absences to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka last season forced Arteta to find more genuine attacking options. That urgency produced two headline arrivals: Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace for £67.5 million and Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting CP for £69 million.
Eze arrived quickly once Havertz’s layoff was confirmed and immediately offered the left-sided spontaneity Arsenal have lacked. Eze can carry the ball, create opportunities and provide a different kind of threat when the opposition overloads one flank. The signing also presents selection questions, since he “also poses a threat to the captain’s starting job as well.” His cameo moments suggested he can change the dynamic on the left.
Gyökeres is the centre-forward answer the club sought. Expectations are high; the chorus was clear: “They need a striker. A 20-goal striker will take them over the line,” and that pressure follows him. Early returns — two goals in three matches but blanks at Old Trafford and Anfield — underline the process of adaptation and the tactical tweaks required when deploying an out-and-out scorer.
Defensive reinforcements addressed a recurring problem. Persistent injuries to Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba, Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori made cover essential. Cristhian Mosquera, signed for £13 million from Valencia, showed composure on debut, and the late loan capture of Piero Hincapié from Bayer Leverkusen strengthens left-sided centre-back options and offers rotation when Gabriel needs rest.
Outgoings and loans included Jakub Kiwior to FC Porto, Reiss Nelson to Brentford, Oleksandr Zinchenko to Nottingham Forest and Fabio Vieira to Hamburg, while Albert Sambi Lokonga moved to Hamburg permanently. Leandro Trossard’s pay rise without an extension and Gabriel Martinelli’s dip in form leave room for January movement.
Overall the window delivered targeted additions across attack, midfield and defence. Much of its value now depends on integration, fitness and, ultimately, results.

Gary Neville used blunt language to describe how Kobbie Mainoo was managed at the start of the season, arguing the midfielder was mishandled before finding form under Michael Carrick.
“I must admit, I never liked the handling of Mainoo,” Neville said on the new episode of Stick to Football, accusing Ruben Amorim of damaging the player when it became clear he would not be selected alongside Bruno Fernandes. “I thought it was rubbish,” he added. “It killed him publicly. Roy Keane welcomed Mainoo’s recent performances. “You couldn’t ask for any more,” he said, adding that the overall turnaround had been “brilliant.” He also warned that conclusions should be cautious given the sample size: “It is only two games,” he warned, wanting to see more.
Paul Scholes praised the renewed midfield balance once Carrick adjusted the system to include both Mainoo and Fernandes while Casemiro remained at No. 6. “Kobbie and Fernandes, they make your team play football,” Scholes said. “When they had just been doing it with Fernandes, they sent [one] to play. He didn’t really have anyone to play with. Now, Kobbie’s also got that ability to play with someone. It makes a big difference.”
