With 11 days to go until the 1 September deadline, Premier League clubs are scrambling to finalise business before the 2025/26 season proper begins. The window has already seen heavy spending, from Sunderland’s reported £140m outlay to Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz signing, a move that could reach £116m.
Several high-profile sagas remain unresolved and could be concluded in the final week. Alexander Isak has been at the centre of the summer’s most drawn-out story. The Sweden striker was subject to a reported £110m bid from Liverpool earlier in the window and has publicly criticised his club, accusing them of “broken promises” over his future. Newcastle’s early rejection of Liverpool’s offer has so far deterred a second bid, but the situation could change if the Magpies decide not to keep an unhappy player.
Alejandro Garnacho has made his preference known for Chelsea and has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Blues. Manchester United value him at £50m while Chelsea are closer to £30m, and Old Trafford remain firm on their valuation after seeing similar deals this summer.
Xavi Simons is another Chelsea target, with RB Leipzig believed to value him at around £60m. Chelsea’s pursuit of Simons may influence their ability to meet United’s price for Garnacho.
Other matters that could move include Yoane Wissa, for whom Newcastle’s £40m offer was turned down by Brentford; Brentford value him nearer £50m. Nicolas Jackson has slipped down Chelsea’s pecking order and could be available; Chelsea have been linked to valuations as high as £80m with reports of nearer £60m offers depending on circumstances.
Tottenham have bid for Savinho, a proposal of about £51m that was rejected, while Manchester City would consider a sale closer to £70m. Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has been mentioned as a potential target if moves elsewhere free up funds, with Madrid said to want at least €100m (£87m).
Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi remains linked with several clubs; a reported valuation gap of £10m has left discussions unresolved. Gianluigi Donnarumma has been offered as an exit option from PSG with an asking price of around £26m.
Monaco would reportedly want £47.5m for Maghnes Akliouche, a player now monitored by Tottenham. With limited time left, many of these negotiations look set to go to the wire.

Manchester United are reported to be preparing a substantial midfield overhaul this summer, with the club said to be willing to “go very big” on central reinforcements. The plan could involve two marquee arrivals and has placed soon-to-be free agent Leon Goretzka firmly on the radar.
Goretzka spent eight seasons at Bayern Munich after joining on July 1, 2018. Arriving from Schalke as a wiry all-rounder, he bulked up during the COVID-19 hiatus and returned with a markedly different build. The 6’2″ midfielder described himself as “more self-confident and more robust.” He added: “Going into full-blooded challenges feeling like that gives me a greater sense of security.” Under Hansi Flick he drove Bayern to the 2019–20 Bundesliga title and a Champions League triumph.
Across his Bayern spell the record shows Joined: July 1, 2018; Games: 292; Goals: 47; Assists: 48; Titles: x6 Bundesliga, x1 Champions League, x2 DFB Pokal, x1 Club World Cup, x1 UEFA Super Cup. Injuries disrupted the following two seasons and, when Thomas Tuchel arrived in 2023, the new coach immediately sought to move him on that summer. Bayern’s board retained him, but reduced playing time followed and that decline cost him a place at the 2024 European Championships held on German soil.
Vincent Kompany initially shared Tuchel’s lack of faith before reintegrating Goretzka and praising his response: “Leon has always worked hard, he’s always been hungry in training,” and, “It’s a good thing for Leon and the other lads. Leon showed the right reaction: with his feet, not with words.”
United, despite an upturn under Carrick, still need a central midfield replacement for the outgoing Casemiro. Manuel Ugarte had been the ideal profile but appears not to be the solution. Goretzka’s more front-footed profile would likely complement one of the three midfield targets United have been circling for months: Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba. Anderson is described as arguably the most complete of the trio, though his dominance may reflect both his talent and his teammates’ limitations, and all three are expected to command substantial fees.
