Arsenal Forward Leandro Trossard Considers Market Opportunities Amid Contract Uncertainty

Leandro Trossard explores market options amid paused Arsenal contract talks and potential transfers.

Leandro Trossard, Arsenal’s forward, is actively exploring his options as contract talks with the club have stalled. Reports indicate that negotiations over a pay raise, rather than a new contract extension, have slowed down with no agreement reached so far. The player has expressed a desire to “see what opportunities the market brings,” indicating openness to potential offers.

Arsenal may be receptive to listening to bids for Trossard, especially if they pursue the signing of a wide forward such as Eberechi Eze. This strategy suggests the club sees some flexibility in their attacking options with potential departures including Trossard or Gabriel Martinelli.

Trossard’s rise in football has been gradual but notable. After beginning his career at Genk, his breakthrough came in the 2018–19 Belgian Pro League season when he turned 24. His impressive performances attracted Brighton, who signed him in 2019. During his time at Brighton, Trossard earned his first senior cap for Belgium.

Arsenal secured his transfer in January 2023, paying a guaranteed fee of £20 million ($26.7 million). Despite this significant investment, the forward’s future at the club remains uncertain amid stalled discussions.

The club faces several possible exits before the transfer window closes. Players like Reiss Nelson, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fábio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and backup goalkeeper Karl Hein have had limited involvement under manager Mikel Arteta and may also depart.

With Arsenal keen to resolve matters swiftly, especially following a rejected approach from Al Ittihad last September, clarity on Trossard’s status could soon emerge as the summer transfer window progresses.

Premier League and European Clubs Active in High-Profile Transfer Negotiations

Key transfer dealings involve Liverpool’s Darwin Núñez, Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo, and other major European clubs.

The summer transfer window remains lively with multiple Premier League and European clubs pursuing notable targets. Juventus has shown interest in Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez, with the Reds potentially open to a loan deal including an option to buy. Liverpool are reportedly preparing to negotiate a deal valuing Núñez at around €65 million. Meanwhile, Arsenal are maintaining contact with Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze, although they are hesitant to meet his £60 million release clause.

Chelsea are progressing towards a deal for Xavi Simons while RB Leipzig look to re-sign Christopher Nkunku. Bayern Munich’s continued interest in Luis Díaz complements their summer strategy to offload David Alaba and Ferland Mendy, though neither player is currently keen on leaving.

Manchester United have ruled out a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez after failing to meet Villa’s demand for a permanent sale. Nottingham Forest’s £25 million offer for Manchester City’s James McAtee was also rejected, with the Premier League champions seeking a higher fee.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to submit a £45 million bid for João Palhinha following talks with Bayern Munich. Additionally, Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham are all tracking Parma center back Giovanni Leoni, valued at €35 million.

Aston Villa are increasing their offer for Galatasaray forward Barış Alper Yılmaz, though still fall short of a €40 million valuation. Barcelona face pressure from Real Madrid over defender Ronald Araújo, prompting President Joan Laporta to negotiate with Liverpool, who are readying an offer exceeding €40 million for the player. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s Gerard Martín may be sold after teammate Jofre Torrents’ rise secured coach Hansi Flick’s approval.

Lastly, Barcelona lead interest in Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson, favouring a loan with an option to buy over the Blues’ €50 million asking price. Across the board, this summer’s transfer activity signals significant squad reshaping among top European clubs.

William Saliba Praises New Arsenal Signing Viktor Gyökeres as a ‘Scary’ Threat

William Saliba calls new Arsenal signing Viktor Gyökeres “scary” and looks forward to his impact.

New Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres has already impressed his teammates, with defender William Saliba describing him as “scary” in a show of respect for the forward’s goal-scoring ability. Gyökeres has recently begun training with the Gunners and is expected to bolster Arsenal’s attacking options significantly.

Saliba, familiar with Gyökeres from a previous Champions League encounter where Arsenal prevailed 5–1 while keeping Gyökeres from scoring, commented from the club’s pre-season base in Singapore: “We know how good he is, it’s scary to play against him.”

When asked why he finds Gyökeres scary, Saliba explained: “When you face a striker who scores goals, you have to be focused! But now he’s in our team and he will score for us, so that’s good.”

Arsenal have been without a recognized number 9 in recent seasons, relying heavily on wingers and midfielders for goals. Kai Havertz has filled this role at times but suffered a long-term injury in the latter half of last season, which hampered Arsenal’s title hopes.

Saliba expressed optimism regarding the new signing, who will wear the iconic number 14 shirt previously worn by Thierry Henry: “I’m so happy to have him in my club and I’m sure that he will help us to win games and win trophies. Every year is different. We have to learn from the last three seasons. Of course, we are lucky to have a chance to compete in the Premier League again to try to win. Our mindset is to win the Premier League and we will give everything from the first game. We have a lot of new players and they will hopefully help us to win this league.”

Arsenal Manager Confident on Viktor Gyokeres’ Upcoming Debut

Mikel Arteta confirms Viktor Gyokeres will debut for Arsenal once fully fit after complex transfer saga.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that Viktor Gyokeres will be allowed to make his debut for the club as soon as he is fully fit. The 27-year-old forward joined Arsenal in a deal reportedly worth up to £63.8 million after protracted negotiations with Sporting CP. These talks were complicated by Sporting’s president allegedly reneging on a gentleman’s agreement to accept a reduced fee, which created tension in Gyokeres’ final weeks in Lisbon.

Amid this dispute, Gyokeres refused to participate in first-team training, impacting his financial and physical condition. Arteta commented on the situation: “I think he hasn’t had a single training session with the team since the last game with Sporting when they became champions. So we will assess him tomorrow, he’s done all the medicals, everything is looking good but to get him up to speed with the right levels of fitness I think is very important. So we’re not going to stop him, we want him with us as quick as possible but we’ll have to assess and the medical team will do that.”

Following Arsenal’s 3–2 victory against Newcastle United in Singapore, the team will face Tottenham Hotspur in the first-ever north London derby to be held outside England, scheduled in Hong Kong. Arsenal’s pre-season will conclude with two friendlies at the Emirates Stadium against Villarreal and Athletic Club before the Premier League campaign begins with a visit to Manchester United’s Old Trafford.

Gyokeres previously excelled at Sporting under manager Ruben Amorim, the current Manchester United boss. Although Manchester United reportedly showed late interest in signing the striker, Gyokeres ultimately chose Arsenal.
