Real Madrid Considers Reducing Rodrygo’s Transfer Fee Amid Multiple Departures
Real Madrid set to lower Rodrygo’s price amid summer departures, with Premier League interest cooling.

Real Madrid is reportedly preparing to lower its asking price for Rodrygo amid plans for a significant summer turnover. While Luka Modrić, Lucas Vázquez, and Jesús Vallejo have already been removed from the wage bill, the only transfer fee received so far is Álvaro Rodríguez’s €2 million move to Elche.
According to reports from AS, the club’s “operation departures” will likely begin in August with Rodrygo’s exit. Despite ongoing interest from several Premier League clubs, Arsenal’s pursuit appears to have ended, and Liverpool’s interest is diminishing. Bayern Munich’s active pursuit of Luis Díaz could clear a path for Tottenham Hotspur to engage in negotiations for Rodrygo.
To facilitate a transfer, Real Madrid is reportedly ready to accept offers below their initial €90 million asking price, though the new valuation remains undisclosed. Rodrygo himself is said not to be considering leaving until told directly by coach Alonso, despite limited playing time during the Club World Cup.
Beyond Rodrygo, other players potentially facing departures include David Alaba, Endrick, Ferland Mendy, and Dani Ceballos. Alaba has been offered an early contract termination with a portion of his salary paid upfront but has declined the proposal. Endrick’s position in the squad has weakened due to Gonzalo García’s rise and a recent hamstring injury, limiting transfer interest and possibly prompting a loan move in January.

Assessing the Impact of Viktor Gyökeres’s Transfer to Arsenal
Viktor Gyökeres’s transfer to Arsenal reshapes the club’s attack and player futures this season.

Viktor Gyökeres’s arrival at Arsenal marks a significant moment after a prolonged transfer negotiation with Sporting Lisbon. This signing offers Arsenal’s manager a long-awaited central striker, simplifying the attacking options compared to past transfer speculations involving players like Dušan Vlahović or Benjamin Šeško.
Arsenal places considerable expectations on Gyökeres to deliver immediate results. Success for the Swede this season could enhance Mikel Arteta’s reputation, especially amid summer debates comparing Gyökeres and Šeško.
Gabriel Jesus, pivotal in Arsenal’s prior title contention, has struggled recently with injuries and inconsistent form. His 2024-25 season tally of seven goals over 44 Premier League appearances contrasts with his initial double-digit season. Gyökeres’s starting role may signal Jesus’s departure, despite Arteta potentially retaining him for his wing versatility.
Defensive tactics focusing heavily on Bukayo Saka have stifled Arsenal’s right flank. Gyökeres’s presence introduces a robust central threat, potentially easing defensive pressure on Saka and increasing Saka’s influence by creating more space. Gyökeres’s ability to challenge defenses in key attacking zones, especially back-post crosses, brings added complexity for opponents.
Leandro Trossard, recruited following a failed pursuit of Mykhailo Mudryk, has been a useful, versatile squad member but sees his starting opportunities limited by Gyökeres’s signing and potential new left forward acquisitions. Arsenal faces a future decision on maintaining either Trossard or Gabriel Martinelli long-term, with transfer speculation surrounding both.
Kai Havertz represents a nuanced case. Once a controversial signing, Havertz impressed with 20 league goal contributions in his first Arsenal season but was hampered by injuries later. Gyökeres’s signing may relieve scoring pressure on Havertz, who can operate as a second striker or attacking midfielder, enhancing squad depth. Should Gyökeres struggle to adapt, Havertz’s familiarity with the system offers a reliable alternative, avoiding urgent strategic dilemmas.
In summary, Gyökeres’s transfer reshapes Arsenal’s attacking dynamics, influencing key players’ roles and future squad decisions. The club’s success may hinge on his immediate impact and integration.

Arsenal Remain Open to New Signings as Eberechi Eze Transfer Rumours Intensify
Arsenal stay open to transfers amid rising interest in Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze this summer.

Following Arsenal’s pre-season friendly win against Newcastle United, manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged the club’s openness to further squad additions. This comes amid mounting reports of Arsenal’s increased interest in Crystal Palace’s talented playmaker Eberechi Eze.
Arsenal are close to surpassing their record summer expenditure, having already spent £205 million in 2022, with Declan Rice accounting for nearly half of that. The club is reportedly trying to negotiate Eze’s £68 million release clause down to around £60 million, potentially including Reiss Nelson in the deal to sweeten terms, though Fulham are also interested in Nelson.
Eze, 27, is said to be receptive to a move this summer, reportedly favouring Arsenal over Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich, who have also shown interest. The Independent reports Arsenal are accelerating their efforts to finalize a deal.
Discussing the possibility of more transfers, Arteta said, “Let’s see. The market is still going on and we’ll have to balance that out with the squad as well. I think we’ll be open to see what happens.”
Arsenal also recently unveiled Viktor Gyökeres before the friendly in Singapore, a move that generated great excitement among both fans and players. Arteta praised Gyökeres’ passion and clear intentions from the start, adding, “You can see the boys, you can see the environment as well, very excited with his arrival.”
However, Gyökeres has yet to train with the team since his last game with Sporting when they secured the championship, noted Arteta, who said, “Well I think he hasn’t had a single training session with the team since the last game with Sporting when they became champions.”

Pep Guardiola Cleared of Coaching Interest in India; Xavi Hernández Hoax Confirmed
AIFF confirms Pep Guardiola did not apply for India coaching role; Xavi applications also fake.

The All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) has officially dismissed rumours that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola had applied for the role of head coach of India’s men’s national football team. Both Guardiola and former Barcelona boss Xavi Hernández were linked to the coaching position, with applications said to have arrived via email. However, the AIFF confirmed these were fraudulent.
An official AIFF statement said: “The AIFF received an email furnishing the applications from Spanish coaches Pep Guardiola and Xavi Hernández. The authenticity of their applications could not be confirmed, and it has since emerged that the email applications were not genuine.”
Unlike Guardiola, who is under contract with Manchester City until 2027, Xavi has been without a coaching role since his dismissal from Barcelona in June 2024. His previous managerial experience with Al Sadd in Qatar could suggest openness to coaching opportunities outside Europe.
While Guardiola is unlikely to take a role in India soon, he has spoken openly about ambitions in international football. In June, he told Reuters, “I would love to be in a World Cup, in a Euro, a Copa América. I have always thought about it. But it depends on many, many things. If it happens, it’s fine. If it doesn’t happen, it’s more than fine as well.” His current focus remains on Manchester City, where despite a difficult season and a third-place league finish, he extended his contract in late 2024. The reigning champions also exited the recent Club World Cup at the last 16 stage.
