Manchester United have added Myles Lewis-Skelly to their list of summer targets, Sky Sports News reports. The 19-year-old is a central midfielder by trade, although every appearance of his senior career has come at left back.<\/p>\n
Arsenal officials hold Lewis-Skelly in high regard. He was long regarded as one of England\u2019s finest prospects, a reputation he established well before his senior debut in September 2024. In total he has made 66 appearances for Arsenal, 27 of them this season, which together amount to just over 1,000 minutes. He has started only once in the Premier League and has not even made it onto the bench since Jan. 8.<\/p>\n
Those limited minutes have been shaped by Arsenal\u2019s immediate hunt for success. Mikel Arteta has strengthened defensive options, recruiting Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapi\u00e9 at left back and reducing opportunities for young players who need regular minutes to develop. Ethan Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly\u2019s long-time academy colleague, was loaned to Marseille after six Premier League appearances in the first half of the season.<\/p>\n
Lewis-Skelly\u2019s lack of playing time also cost him his place in the England squad, with international manager Thomas Tuchel making it abundantly clear he needs to play more if he wants to return to the team. Having been at Arsenal since the age of eight, Lewis-Skelly still wants to make it at the club, but faces a difficult decision at a crucial stage of his development.<\/p>\n
United want a new starting left back and would likely have to make a significant financial commitment to sign Lewis-Skelly, a move that would effectively guarantee him a permanent role. Arsenal are aware of the options. They sent Nwaneri out on loan in January and have regularly floated the idea of Lewis-Skelly going out on loan in the summer to gain experience. They would, however, be highly unlikely to send him to United on loan without a significant purchase clause.
