Arne Slot reached his 100th game in charge of Liverpool on Tuesday night, a milestone marked by defeat to Galatasaray.<\/p>\n
Slot arrived in the summer of 2024 to immediate success, succeeding J\u00fcrgen Klopp and delivering only a second title since 1990 to equal Manchester United\u2019s all-time English championship record. That early achievement has been followed by a turbulent period after a major summer overhaul. The club spent a world record $599 million (\u00a3446 million) in a single transfer window on players who have yet to perform consistently, while last season\u2019s top performers have dipped, including Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.<\/p>\n
At the 100-match point Slot\u2019s ledger stands at 62 wins, 15 draws and 23 losses. Worryingly, 13 of those defeats have come in the still ongoing season, with more than two months remaining. His overall career win percentage is recorded at 62.3%.<\/p>\n
Compared with J\u00fcrgen Klopp at the same stage, Slot\u2019s start is statistically stronger. Klopp\u2019s first 100 games, from his October 2015 arrival to August 2017, yielded 50 wins, 29 draws and 21 defeats. The two spells also differ in attacking returns: Slot\u2019s side have scored 208 goals and conceded 118; Klopp\u2019s Liverpool had 182 goals for and 108 against through their first 100 matches.<\/p>\n
Klopp inherited a different situation in October 2015. The club had finished sixth in the last full season before his arrival. Under Brendan Rodgers the Reds had come close to the title in 2013\u201314 but were heavily reliant on Luis Su\u00e1rez; his 2014 departure to Barcelona preceded a decline, and recruitment then failed to replace his influence.<\/p>\n
Klopp took over 12 games into 2015\u201316, finishing eighth that season and improving to fourth in 2016\u201317. It was only after his next campaign, beyond the 100-match mark, that his team began to meet expectations of challenging for the highest honors.<\/p>\n
Slot has acknowledged the advantage he inherited and defended his record. \u201cI\u2019ve been lucky I\u2019ve been given a very good team last season and this season,\u201d he said. \u201cI have all the trust that these players will perform at the levels they are used to of a Liverpool team.\u201d<\/p>\n
