Volker Struth has disclosed that he approached Real Madrid with an offer for Florian Wirtz prior to the midfielder\u2019s transfer to Liverpool. Struth, who is not Wirtz\u2019s official agent but is believed to have involvement in his affairs, said he reached out during the discussions that later led to the move to Anfield.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring the period when a move to Liverpool or Bayern was being discussed, I called Xabi Alonso and told him: \u2018You have to take the lad from Leverkusen with you to Real,\u2019\u201d Struth told Bild\u2019s Phrasenm\u00e4her podcast. He said Alonso was supportive but directed him to Real president Florentino P\u00e9rez. \u201cSo I actually sent him a message: \u2018Dear Florentino, I\u2019ve told you many times before: I have a player here whom I would highly recommend.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2018Florian Wirtz makes every team in the world better,\u2019\u201d the agent concluded. Struth added that the move was not completed in part because of finances. He suggested Wirtz was beyond Real Madrid\u2019s means in 2025 and pointed to timing and budget constraints.<\/p>\n
Liverpool committed to a British record fee for Wirtz, a figure that was then surpassed weeks later when the club paid more for Alexander Isak. Struth noted that the same sum would have represented a club record outlay for Real Madrid, whose biggest reported transfer spend to date saw Jude Bellingham arrive for up to \u00a3115 million.<\/p>\n
Rather than pursue Wirtz, Real Madrid spread funds across several targets, recruiting Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, \u00c1lvaro Carreras and Franco Mastantuono. \u201cIt simply wasn\u2019t the right time due to the squad and the budget,\u201d Struth claimed. He continued: \u201cMy greatest wish, of course, would have been to have Florian at Real Madrid to see\u2014and I don’t think I’m alone in that. I also think he would be in very good hands there. He\u2019s doing quite well in Liverpool now. [But] he\u2019s a very young player and who knows what might happen in his career.\u201d<\/p>\n
