Arne Slot has pushed back after Wayne Rooney suggested the Liverpool manager lacks \u201cthat aura about him\u201d when compared with J\u00fcrgen Klopp. Rooney had also described Slot as a \u201cnice fella,\u201d a line that has fed the broader discussion around form and leadership at Liverpool.<\/p>\n
Slot questioned the fairness of the comparison and pointed to a shared achievement with Klopp as a counterpoint. \u201cThe only thing we have in common, J\u00fcrgen and me, is that we both won the league\u2014and that\u2019s not too bad, is it? I think the more a manager wins, the more aura he has. That\u2019s in general something.\u201d<\/p>\n
Addressing perceptions of momentum, Slot added: \u201cLast season I had more aura than this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe [Rooney] is the only one who has this opinion \u2026 it\u2019s the first time that I heard this but I think it\u2019s fair to say that J\u00fcrgen definitely has an aura. I can talk about him, not about myself, but he definitely had that. But a winning manager has an aura as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
Klopp was Liverpool manager from October 2015 until May 2024, a nine-season spell in which he ultimately dictated his own exit. Slot is already operating under increased scrutiny in his second year in the role after overseeing earlier this season Liverpool\u2019s worst run of results in more than 70 years.<\/p>\n
Slot also reflected on longevity in modern management and the intensified attention managers now face. \u201cThere\u2019s so much being said about football, so much more than 10 years ago. The moment you start to lose one or two games now, then there\u2019s much more being spoken about it and much more emphasis on it. So that makes it more difficult. I think the job has become harder because of all the media attention.\u201d<\/p>\n
