Michael Carrick has acknowledged he feels \u2018\u2018at home\u2019\u2019 in the dugout as Manchester United manager and has not ruled out staying beyond the current campaign.<\/p>\n
United\u2019s bright start, which has included victories over Manchester City and Arsenal, has prompted calls for the club to offer Carrick a long-term contract. He told reporters that early results should not dictate the decision, while signalling he would welcome the opportunity to remain in charge.<\/p>\n
“Nothing\u2019s changed, to be honest,” he said.<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m fully aware of the role I\u2019m doing here and the responsibility I\u2019ve got. We want to be successful, and I want the club to be successful beyond the end of the season\u2014if that\u2019s me, if that\u2019s somebody else.<\/p>\n
“At this stage, I can\u2019t control that and we\u2019ll see what happens, but it\u2019s certainly about trying to improve the team and making Manchester United stronger. Results over a short period of time don\u2019t change that.<\/p>\n
“If they have changed there is something wrong. It can\u2019t be so knee-jerk whether it\u2019s really good or whether there\u2019s a few issues we need to solve.”<\/p>\n
He added: “I\u2019m loving what I\u2019m doing. I\u2019m here. I feel at home here, but I fully understand the situation, so I\u2019m not getting too carried away.”<\/p>\n
Carrick is officially the interim boss until the end of the season, with no automatic guarantee of a permanent role at Old Trafford. That arrangement leaves the next four months as an informal audition, a path previously trodden by Ole Gunnar Solskj\u00e6r in 2019 after he outperformed expectations as caretaker over the preceding three months.<\/p>\n
