Arne Slot has applauded the arrival of J\u00e9r\u00e9my Jacquet, describing the new signing as a rare young talent and using the move to underline confidence in Liverpool\u2019s recruitment strategy.<\/p>\n
Asked about the arrival of the phenom, Slot replied: \u201cVery pleasing, of course, because first of all he is a very big talent\u2014and maybe even more than \u2018only\u2019 a talent, but we speak about talent because of his age, of course.<\/p>\n
\u201cSecond of all because we weren\u2019t the only one interested in him, so another big compliment for the people that are working every single day so hard to sign players, that we were able to sign such a big talent.\u201d<\/p>\n
Supporters had expressed frustration over a lack of winter spending, given injury problems and an acknowledged shortfall in defensive depth. The announcement of Jacquet has eased some of that tension, although the Frenchman will not join until the end of the season and so offers no immediate remedy for current availability issues.<\/p>\n
Slot was keen to credit the club\u2019s recruitment staff when asked about the signing and insisted the organisation remains well placed for the future. \u201c[It is] another example of the model we are using at this club: so, young, very talented players, sometimes in the start of their career, sometimes already a little bit a few years into their career, but always players that are young and can improve us and help us for the short, but definitely also for the long term,\u201d the Dutchman enthused.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cWe have signed a lot of them recently and I\u2019ve said many times that the mid to long-term, but even the short-term, future of this club is in a very, very, very good place.\u201d<\/p>\n
