Axel Disasi has ended a fractious period at Chelsea by joining West Ham United on loan, the final transfer business of Deadline Day. The move follows a half-season in which Disasi returned to Chelsea only to be placed in the club\u2019s so-called “bomb squad,” removed from all first-team activity including training.<\/p>\n
Left to train away from the squad alongside Raheem Sterling at Cobham, Disasi saw his prospects transformed after a managerial change. “Liam Rosenior replaced Maresca on New Year\u2019s Day and promptly reintegrated the 27-year-old centre back,” the club movement noted, and Disasi was allowed to train with teammates and work towards match fitness ahead of a winter switch.<\/p>\n
West Ham paid a \u00a31.7 million ($2.3 million) loan fee, per BBC Sport, to secure his services. There had been speculation linking Disasi with Lyon and Roma, but Chelsea\u2019s London rivals completed the deal as they seek defensive reinforcements amid a deteriorating run of form.<\/p>\n

West Ham\u2019s recent form offers context for the signing. At Stamford Bridge the team carried a 2\u20130 interval lead but conceded three unanswered goals in the second half and now possess the worst defensive record in the division. Depending on his fitness, Disasi could feature as early as this weekend\u2019s crucial meeting with fellow relegation battlers Burnley after Jean-Clair Todibo was sent off for throttling Jo\u00e3o Pedro in the closing stages of Sunday\u2019s defeat to Chelsea.<\/p>\n
