Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has acknowledged the club must seriously consider a loan for Ethan Nwaneri this month as the midfielder seeks more playing time.<\/p>\n
The 18-year-old, whose professional career began three-and-a-half years ago, made 16 starts last season, three more than four-time Premier League champion Raheem Sterling. Despite that early promise, Nwaneri\u2019s involvement this term has been limited and he has been linked with a mid-season move to secure more minutes. Multiple reports claim that a deal has already been agreed with Marseille to loan the youngster for the rest of the season.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the media after Tuesday\u2019s impressive 3\u20131 win over Inter \u2014 another game which Nwaneri watched from the bench \u2014 Arteta conceded: \u201cWe certainly have to assess the situation. Obviously, Ethan\u2019s not playing the minutes that he probably deserves and needs at his age.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, we\u2019re going to sit down this week, address the situation, get everybody\u2019s opinion and at the end we’ll make the decision that we believe is the best one for the player, because we have a massive talent there and we really need to look after it.\u201d<\/p>\n
When pressed again on the prospect of a loan move, Arteta added: \u201cWe\u2019ll see,\u201d and: “Let\u2019s first of all make the decision, the best one, and then we can see what the impact will be.” Those comments underlined the club\u2019s intention to prioritise the player\u2019s development when weighing any move.<\/p>\n
Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi was asked about Nwaneri before his side\u2019s Champions League meeting with Liverpool on Wednesday night. The Italian coach remained guarded: \u201cI know him, he\u2019s a good player,\u201d De Zerbi said. \u201cBut you\u2019ll have to ask [Marseille president Pablo] Longoria.\u201d<\/p>\n
