Oliver Glasner has confirmed he will depart Crystal Palace when his contract expires this summer, making him a free agent as Manchester United prepare to appoint a permanent head coach. The club\u2019s leadership team, led by director of football Jason Wilcox, will oversee the recruitment once Palace\u2019s season concludes.<\/p>\n
Glasner had been named as a reported \u201ctop target\u201d for Manchester United following Ruben Amorim\u2019s stormy exit. The Austrian coach said the decision to leave was made months ago during a meeting with Palace chair Steve Parish in October, during the international break. He told assembled media: “A decision has already been taken, months ago. I had a meeting with Steve [Parish] in October, the international break,” he told assembled media on Friday. “We had a very long talk, and I told him I will not sign a new contract.<\/p>\n
“We agreed at the time it was best to keep it between us. It\u2019s best that we could do that and keep it confidential for three months. I told the team today, because I think now it\u2019s important to have clarity.<\/p>\n
“We had a very busy schedule so that\u2019s why we didn\u2019t want to talk about it. Steve and I want the best for Crystal Palace.”<\/p>\n
Glasner, the former Eintracht Frankfurt boss, emphasised the exit decision was not driven by recent player sales. The club have sold Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, with captain Marc Gu\u00e9hi expected to follow later this month. He said his choice was motivated by a desire for a new assignment rather than transfer activity. “I told Steve I\u2019m just looking for a new challenge,” Glasner recounted. “I told him in October, it\u2019s nothing to do with the transfer window. I hate if something is written or said that is not true, and it was very tough for me not to respond. We have a great relationship, and we\u2019re always talking about what is best for Crystal Palace.”<\/p>\n
