Rio Ferdinand has suggested Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would quietly consider the Manchester United job after the club dismissed Ruben Amorim. Ferdinand put Arteta\u2019s name into the conversation on his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel while reacting to United\u2019s decision to move on from Amorim.<\/p>\n
Darren Fletcher will act as interim boss while the 20-time English champions search for a permanent successor. Xavi, Oliver Glasner and Enzo Maresca were named among the possible candidates before Ferdinand added his own suggestions.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnai Emery would be someone who would absolutely jump at the chance,\u201d Ferdinand said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents YouTube channel.<\/p>\n
\u201cPep Guardiola\u2019s the only manager in the league who I think would sit there and go, \u2018I\u2019m content where I am, I\u2019m happy where I am and I don\u2019t need it.\u2019<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s never gonna say it, he would never say it out loud. But I\u2019m telling you, Mikel Arteta would sit there [and consider it].\u201d<\/p>\n
The article noted Arteta took over Arsenal in Dec. 2019 and signed a three-year extension in 2024. The Gunners sit atop the table with a six-point lead over second-place Manchester City. The 43-year-old has ambitions to deliver Arsenal their first Premier League title since the club\u2019s unbeaten 2003\u20132004 season.<\/p>\n
Ferdinand also described a shift in his interactions with Amorim, saying he noticed a change when he last visited the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I went there the last time, I noticed immediately that there was a coldness about [Amorim], and there was a real difference to what I\u2019d seen before,\u201d Ferdinand explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow I look back with hindsight, I think things were starting to cook before Christmas. This isn\u2019t just an overnight thing in terms of his dialogue with the hierarchy and the way he\u2019s been feeling about things.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis coldness I saw in the last two press conferences, I saw it in him. The vibe in the training ground around the players felt good, but he just felt a little bit distant.\u201d<\/p>\n
Amorim leaves United sixth in the table, level with Chelsea on 31 points.
