Manchester United have confirmed Ruben Amorim has left the club following a public outburst directed at the club\u2019s recruitment operation and decision-makers. The Portuguese coach rejected the job title of “head coach” in favour of “manager” and challenged those above him to “do their jobs,” taking aim specifically at the scouting department and sporting director Jason Wilcox.<\/p>\n
Emergency talks were held among the club hierarchy and the club announced it had decided to part ways. “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club\u2019s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change,” a brief statement read. “This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”<\/p>\n

The manager was unhappy with the club\u2019s approach to bolstering his squad and with the level of buy-in to his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation. The dispute widened after it emerged the head of recruitment, Christopher Vivell, had questioned Amorim\u2019s approach to games in a private WhatsApp group that included the club\u2019s decision-makers.<\/p>\n
Transfers are understood to be central to Amorim\u2019s frustrations. The Telegraph reported he was unimpressed by suggestions United would not sign a single player during the January window. Sky Sports News added that disagreement extended to tactics and the long-term plan for the team.<\/p>\n
Amorim had identified targets he considered necessary to support his system, including at least one elite-level central midfielder alongside a new wing back, striker and centre back. The club has sought to avoid a reactionary transfer approach.
