Chelsea have identified Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior as their preferred candidate to succeed Enzo Maresca, according to reports. The club is said to want a brief recruitment process, limiting consideration to a short list of candidates in the hope of stabilising the team quickly.<\/p>\n
At the top of Chelsea\u2019s list, The Telegraph reports, is Rosenior, who manages Strasbourg, the French club also owned by BlueCo. Rosenior first attracted attention during his time at Hull City and was signed by Strasbourg in the summer of 2024. He impressed in his first season and chose to sign a contract extension, reportedly turning down Premier League interest.<\/p>\n
Sources say Rosenior is familiar with the club\u2019s controversial model and has supporters inside BlueCo. That familiarity has fuelled talk that he could move directly to Stamford Bridge, although it is unclear whether any agreement could be reached before Chelsea\u2019s Sunday meeting with Manchester City.<\/p>\n
Maresca\u2019s exit followed a period in which he reportedly clashed with figures above him on issues including player recruitment and tactical decisions. There were also reports that Maresca had been approached by Manchester City as a potential replacement for Pep Guardiola, who could step down at the end of the season. The Athletic states Maresca held three rounds of talks with City this season.<\/p>\n
A clause in Maresca\u2019s contract required him to inform Chelsea of contact with other clubs. He first revealed contact with City in late October and informed the club twice in the days that followed. He also indicated talks with the Etihad outfit midway through December, around the time his disagreements with the Chelsea setup became public knowledge.<\/p>\n
