Manchester United have received an official loan approach from Roma for forward Joshua Zirkzee, with the Serie A club understood to have offered a temporary deal containing a conditional obligation to buy. The proposal arrived via intermediaries and was reported in the transfer coverage surrounding the club.<\/p>\n
Zirkzee remains on the fringes at United after a campaign in which Ruben Amorim has handed the No. 11 just three Premier League starts. The striker stayed at Old Trafford after Rasmus H\u00f8jlund was sent to Napoli, while Benjamin \u0160e\u0161ko was added to the squad. Zirkzee had, however, publicly pledged to fight for minutes following summer arrivals. \u201cI\u2019m very confident,\u201d he declared in July when asked about competition from Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.<\/p>\n
Recent reports suggest the forward is open to a move away in search of regular football, and Roma have advanced an offer described as a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. Fabrizio Romano reported the structure of the proposal and indicated that United are not expected to rush their reply, noting they will \u201ctake their time\u201d over the offer.<\/p>\n
United\u2019s caution is explained by the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations. The club are currently without Moroccan defender Noussair Mazraoui and the attacking pair Bryan Mbeumo (Cameroon) and Amad Diallo (Ivory Coast). Morocco have already secured progress to the knockout stages, while Cameroon and Ivory Coast have each begun the tournament with 1\u20130 victories. If those nations continue as expected, United may not regain the right-sided duo until the second week of January at the earliest.<\/p>\n
Should Cameroon or Ivory Coast reach the semifinals, Mbeumo or Amad could remain unavailable until after the derby against Pep Guardiola\u2019s Manchester City on Jan. 17.
