Chelsea have taken the first formal step in pursuing Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, lodging an enquiry with his representatives while Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City remain interested.<\/p>\n
The Ghana international is available for selection this season after his country failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations and scored his eighth Premier League goal of 2025\u201326 this past weekend. Overall he has 11 direct goal involvements in 16 league appearances and has found the net from either flank this term.<\/p>\n
The Athletic specifically calls it an \u201cinitial enquiry,\u201d suggesting any potential deal is still in its earliest stages. The approach appears aimed at establishing salary expectations, with no immediate need to negotiate with Bournemouth because a release clause exists.<\/p>\n
Chelsea had planned to add attacking reinforcements next season but moved to explore options sooner because of the capped transfer-fee opportunity created by that clause. The Blues remain short of the offensive output required to mount a sustained title challenge; Pep Guardiola\u2019s Manchester City have conceded one fewer goal, scored 12 more and sit eight points clear. By comparison, no Chelsea player has more than five Premier League goals so far (Pedro Neto, Jo\u00e3o Pedro).<\/p>\n
This is not Chelsea\u2019s first effort to sign Semenyo. The club expressed interest when he was a teenager, with a reported \u00a31 million offer in January 2019, according to the Daily Mail, while Bristol City wanted a fee \u201ccloser to \u00a32 million\u201d instead. At that time the west London-born forward was 19, midway through a loan at Newport County, and had progressed through Bristol City after being rejected by Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace. Clubs are now prepared to pay more than 30 times that earlier nominal figure.<\/p>\n
Interest remains strong across the Premier League. Manchester United and Liverpool have recently been on the receiving end of his goals and are monitoring the situation.
