Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said Bruno Fernandes will be sidelined for \u201ca while\u201d after suffering a soft-tissue injury in the defeat to Aston Villa.<\/p>\n
Fernandes left the pitch injured and later took his place on the bench to watch Morgan Rogers complete a two-goal haul which handed a frustrating defeat to the Red Devils. After the final whistle Amorim offered an uncertain update on the midfielder\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s soft tissue,\u201d Amorim told Sky Sports after the final whistle. \u201cSo, it\u2019s going to take a while. We\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his post-match press conference the United boss added: \u201cI think it is a soft tissue [injury], but I don\u2019t know at this stage [how long Fernandes will miss]. I think he will miss some games but, for the moment, that is it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t really want to talk about these matters, because we cannot control them. He is someone who is usually fit and, when he isn\u2019t, usually recovers well.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Fernandes occupied the bench he was targeted by taunts from a number of Aston Villa fans seated nearby. The Portugal international responded directly to those jeering him, refusing to let the moment pass without comment.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou sing more for me than your team,\u201d said Fernandes in footage captured from behind the bench. \u201cYou like me.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t be angry because I always score against you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fernandes\u2019 absence will add to Amorim\u2019s selection problems. Casemiro was suspended for the match and Kobbie Mainoo was ruled out through injury, forcing United to introduce academy players from the bench.
