Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoene\u00df used a public appearance to level a blistering critique at Liverpool\u2019s summer transfer activity and the way Florian Wirtz has been deployed since his arrival. Hoene\u00df highlighted the scale of Liverpool\u2019s spending, noting the club spent almost \u00a3450 million ($595.1 million) over the summer while, he said, Bayern had spent around \u00a3370 million over the past three years combined.<\/p>\n
Hoene\u00df spoke in front of 10,000 spectators at a business event in Munich\u2019s Olympic Hall, comments that were covered by BILD. \u201cThey spent \u20ac500 million and are having a disastrous season,\u201d he cackled. \u201cIn my opinion, that\u2019s because they only have superstars. He added sharper criticism aimed at Liverpool\u2019s handling of Wirtz, who moved to Liverpool in what the draft describes as a club-record \u00a3116 million deal after Liverpool beat Bayern to his signature. Hoene\u00df argued the move has not worked out for the German playmaker and singled out managerial promises. \u201cObviously, manager Slot promised him something he\u2019s not keeping,\u201d he huffed. \u201cHe clearly promised him he\u2019d get the No. 10 jersey. He was very particular about that. And he also promised he\u2019d build a new team around him. Nonsense!
