Ruben Amorim has outlined a clear recruitment priority for Manchester United after a display that could not break down a compact defence. The coach argued his squad lacks an attack-minded wing back in the mould of Amad Diallo to improve the team\u2019s threat in the final third.<\/p>\n
United failed to break down the resilient defence constructed by their former manager David Moyes, and Amorim\u2019s unwillingness to shift from his preferred 3-4-2-1 system despite his side\u2019s numerical advantage garnered criticism. His substitutions were also met with scrutiny, with his decision to replace Patrick Dorgu with the defensively-minded Diogo Dalot before the hour mark backfiring.<\/p>\n
In the build-up to Sunday\u2019s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, Amorim pointed to a lack of options in wide areas and suggested recruitment is required. \u201cWe need time to improve the characteristics of the team. I\u2019ve said that over the last year,\u201d Amorim replied when quizzed about strengthening at wingback in 2026. \u201cTo give an example, in the last game [against Everton], we should have an Amad with the right foot to put on the other side to play against 10 men.<\/p>\n
