The announcement places the project alongside other venues being considered for the tournament.

Birmingham City’s proposed new ground was also included in the selection, though its designs provoked online backlash because of the prominent towers lining its perimeter. Other top-tier grounds named in the process include Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. Liverpool’s Anfield was not included, while the national stadium of Wembley remains on the list.

On the prospect of new stadia being used for the tournament, Mark Bullingham said: “From the early plans, they could be really exciting,” and added, “If they are built, we’d obviously want them included in the tournament, so it would be right, if you look 10 years down the road, to have the best stadia the country has included.”

United’s chief operating officer Collette Roche framed the development as part of a broader regeneration programme. “Our ambition is to build a new 100,000-seater stadium fit to host the biggest international football games. This will be part of a wider regeneration of the area around Old Trafford, with far-reaching benefits for the local community, Greater Manchester and surrounding region.”

The club has previously indicated an earlier target, with reports suggesting a move into a new home ahead of the 2030–31 season. Since initial designs by Foster + Partners were revealed, there has been minimal concrete action, although the club has taken steps towards securing financial backing from the U.K. government as part of wider investment plans for the Manchester area.

If the new construction does not meet the 2035 aim, the club has confirmed that “Old Trafford in its current form” would remain a viable venue to host fixtures. Separately, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has promoted ambitions for a so-called “Wembley of the North” and said: “I think a really good example is the Eiffel Tower. Everyone around the world knows the Eiffel Tower: you go to Paris, you stay in Paris, you spend money. We have one billion people around the world who follow Manchester United. I think everybody in the world who’s interested in football will want to visit Old Trafford.”

United aim to open a 100,000-seat stadium for the 2035 Women’s World Cup; plans draw mixed views…

[179,172
1215,1279
post-4743","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-manchester-united","category-epl","tag-controversy","tag-stadium-plans
["GET
