Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has defended his approach after persistent criticism over the 3-4-2-1 system he has used during his first year at Old Trafford. The complaints resurfaced after Monday night\u2019s Premier League defeat to Everton, the club\u2019s first home loss to the Toffees in 12 years.<\/p>\n
Amorim rejected the suggestion that he is inflexible, telling DAZN Portugal that he is ready to vary his methods. He said he is \u201cwilling\u201d to alter his tactical system and insisted similar movement has already been part of United\u2019s play this season. Asked whether he planned to reinstate the more mobile rotation of forwards that featured in Sporting\u2019s version of the 3-4-2-1, he pointed to recent examples. \u201cWe did it against Liverpool, it wasn\u2019t with Bryan Mbeumo, it was with [Matheus] Cunha,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n
The manager emphasised the modern game\u2019s tactical fluidity and framed his set-ups as starting points rather than fixed doctrines. \u201cAnd it\u2019s an option that we have, and nowadays, everyone, not only in the English league but in the Portuguese league, in all leagues, there’s a great variation in how things are structured.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe might say it\u2019s a 4-4-2, but five minutes later it\u2019s a 4-3-3 or a 3-4-3. Therefore, I\u2019m willing to do anything, contrary to what many people think that I\u2019m too fixated on one thing.<\/p>\n
\u201cI simply start with a basic foundation, but obviously, we can use it in the future. And we\u2019ve already thought about that with Bryan [playing centrally] because he\u2019s very strong in transitions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do think [wide] the best position for him because he likes to be hidden, he doesn\u2019t like people watching him. He can attack, be more dangerous on one of the flanks, either right or left, rather than as a striker, but it\u2019s a good option, therefore I\u2019ll be able to use it in the future as I did several times at Sporting.\u201d<\/p>\n
