Liverpool\u2019s poor run of results has intensified scrutiny on the club\u2019s leadership and on manager Arne Slot, who is facing accusations of second-season syndrome. The club\u2019s summer spending of \u00a3446 million, a Premier League record, has added pressure as expectations rise.<\/p>\n
Virgil van Dijk described the state of the squad as “a mess” after the Forest humiliation, and Jamie Carragher has criticised the lack of public response from other senior figures. Carragher argued that more voices are needed from inside the dressing room and singled out Mohamed Salah for failing to speak up when the team has been under fire.<\/p>\n
“After the Forest game, Virgil van Dijk has come out and spoken, as he should do as the captain,” Carragher said on Sky Sports\u2019 Monday Night Football. “On the back of all these Liverpool defeats, it\u2019s always Van Dijk who comes out and speaks. The captain should do that but there should be other players in that dressing room and speaking for the club.<\/p>\n
“A year ago this weekend, Mo Salah wasn\u2019t shy in speaking about his own situation and the club not offering him a contract. I only ever hear Salah speak when he gets man of the match or when he needs a new contract.<\/p>\n
“I would like to see Salah as one of the leaders and legends of Liverpool come out and speak for the team.”<\/p>\n
Salah, who was Premier League Player of the Season for 2024\u201325 as Liverpool won the title, has produced fewer goal contributions this term. He has managed eight goal contributions to date compared with 22 by this stage last season.<\/p>\n
Former striker Wayne Rooney has also voiced concerns about Salah\u2019s impact and work rate, calling on Slot to make a decisive change.<\/p>\n
“Salah is not helping them defensively. If you\u2019re one of the players who they\u2019ve signed and you\u2019re on the bench and you\u2019ve seen him not running\u2014and again he\u2019s a club legend and everything he\u2019s done for the club\u2014but if you\u2019re on the bench, then what message does that send to you?” Rooney said.<\/p>\n
“If I was Slot, I\u2019d try and make a big decision just so it has an impact on the rest of the team” Rooney added. “When you\u2019re not winning games, you want to try and stay compact and hard to beat, so I think while they\u2019re going through this period, 100% he needs to make a decision.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
