Ruben Amorim has indicated Manchester United will try to keep Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui at the club for as long as possible before the Africa Cup of Nations. The manager confirmed the intention in a Friday news conference, acknowledging release regulations but stressing attempts to negotiate with the federations.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have the rules for when we have to release the players [but] we are trying to have the players a bit longer,\u201d Amorim said. \u201cIt is not just in our hands. We will see. We will try to arrange something with the federations.\u201d The club points to Andr\u00e9 Onana\u2019s previous late arrival to Cameroon at the last tournament, when he joined only a day before his country\u2019s opening game and missed a single United match, an FA Cup third round tie with Newport County.<\/p>\n
Mbeumo\u2019s bright start at Old Trafford has been a welcome boost after a difficult season. The sacking of Erik ten Hag and the appointment of Amorim did not halt a downward run in 2024\u201325, but the new ideas are starting to take hold and performances are improving. United\u2019s attack has grown more potent with Mbeumo in the side, while Amad has adapted to a role on the right as a right wing back. Mazraoui has had limited influence in 2025\u201326 because of injury but remains a versatile and useful member of the squad.<\/p>\n
On coping with potential midseason absences, Amorim warned of the challenge but pointed to internal options. \u201cIt is a concern but we already knew. There is an opportunity for other players.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have also the under-21s. We need to send a message in that time so we will see. But of course it is not ideal because they are so important in our team and we don’t have a long squad but again, our academy is for these moments and they will be ready.\u201d<\/p>\n
United\u2019s immediate priority remains the Premier League.
