Manchester United have inserted Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson into their list of midfield options as they prepare for the possibility of Casemiro leaving Old Trafford on a free transfer at the end of the season. Casemiro has rebuilt his reputation after a challenging period, but his age and contract position are influencing United\u2019s planning. Ruben Amorim recently said his \u201cgoal is to continue to count with Casemiro\u201d, yet the Brazilian could depart at 34 and his \u00a3350,000 weekly salary is a notable consideration.<\/p>\n
Carlos Baleba was United\u2019s prevailing target after interest over the summer, but Brighton & Hove Albion rejected approaches and Baleba\u2019s valuation discouraged further negotiation. Crystal Palace\u2019s Adam Wharton has also been linked, but United appear to have added Anderson \u2014 a former Newcastle academy player \u2014 to their alternatives.<\/p>\n
Newcastle sold Anderson in 2024 to comply with profit and sustainability rules and demanded \u00a335 million from Forest for his signature. His rapid rise since has dramatically increased his market value, bringing Liverpool and his former club Newcastle United into potential competition for his services.<\/p>\n
Anderson has established himself among the Premier League\u2019s most promising young midfielders. He has worked his way into the senior England squad under Thomas Tuchel, starting five of the last six matches for the Three Lions, and appears certain to be included in next summer\u2019s FIFA World Cup squad.
