Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed Benjamin \u0160e\u0161ko will be sidelined for the next few weeks after sustaining a knee injury in the 2\u20132 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. United, having used all their substitutions, were reduced to ten men for the closing stages, but a last-gasp Matthijs de Ligt header rescued a point for the visitors.<\/p>\n
\u0160e\u0161ko subsequently withdrew from Slovenia\u2019s final two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Kosovo and Sweden amid concern that the former RB Leipzig forward had suffered a significant setback. Scans, however, showed no major structural problem. Still, Amorim said he expects to be without the striker for around a month and warned of the need for caution.<\/p>\n
But while scans revealed no major issue, Amorim expects to be without \u0160e\u0161ko for the next month. Speaking ahead of Everton\u2019s visit to Old Trafford on Monday night, the United boss said: “He [\u0160e\u0161ko] is going to stay a few weeks out. I don\u2019t know how long, but it\u2019s not that serious. We have to be careful with him. He is going to recover, and he is feeling better.”<\/p>\n
Statistically the 22-year-old has had a slow start to life at Old Trafford, scoring just twice in 11 appearances. Amorim admitted it was a “fact” that the 22-year-old has “struggled a little bit” at his new home.<\/p>\n
\u0160e\u0161ko\u2019s absence is an unwelcome setback but not an unfamiliar scenario for United this season. The squad have found ways to compete without a recognised centre-forward, and Amorim is likely to turn to Mason Mount to complement Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo while the striker recovers.<\/p>\n
