Enzo Fern\u00e1ndez will not take part in Argentina\u2019s final two fixtures of 2025 after confirming a persistent knee problem that stretches back four months. The Chelsea midfielder and Argentina reached a joint decision with national team medical staff to prioritise recovery ahead of the end of the club season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been talking with the [national team] medical staff because I\u2019ve been carrying a knee problem for four months,\u201d Fern\u00e1ndez told ESPN. \u201cTogether we took the decision for me to rest these two weeks, given what\u2019s important is coming at the end of the season.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve had a lot of pain. These [next] two or three weeks I\u2019ll try to recover to the maximum and be at 100% to be back training and playing with my teammates.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fern\u00e1ndez said the issue is a bone edema and that it had worsened because of heavy match load in recent weeks. \u201cI\u2019ve been carrying a bone edema that worsened in recent weeks because of the amount of games I\u2019ve played,\u201d Fern\u00e1ndez said. \u201cIt\u2019s very good to have talked about it [with Argentina\u2019s medical staff] and decide together that this is what\u2019s best for my knee.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Chelsea player had previously withdrawn from Argentina\u2019s camp in October owing to a similar knee issue. Across the current 2025\u201326 campaign Fern\u00e1ndez has appeared 16 times for Chelsea and has already surpassed the 1,000-minute mark. He also featured for Argentina for 78 minutes during the October international break.<\/p>\n
The decision to rest for up to three weeks follows consultation with medical staff and is intended to manage pain and protect the knee ahead of the run-in of the club season.
