Kobbie Mainoo is preparing to seek a loan move away from Manchester United in the January transfer window after a season of limited first-team opportunities. West Ham United have emerged as a concrete option, with Fabrizio Romano reporting the Hammers have offered the youngster a role with “guaranteed minutes” for the second half of the campaign.<\/p>\n
Mainoo’s reduced playing time under manager Ruben Amorim has contributed to his absence from the England setup; he has not played for the Three Lions since September 2024. At club level the midfielder has not started a Premier League game since May, after veteran Casemiro moved ahead of him in the pecking order.<\/p>\n
West Ham boss Nuno Esp\u00edrito Santo is said to be seeking fresh legs in midfield and has indicated Mainoo would feature regularly if he arrives. Napoli are also reported to have renewed interest following Kevin De Bruyne’s hamstring injury, but persuading United to sanction a temporary departure for a player considered valuable cover looks likely to be challenging.<\/p>\n
Amorim has been publicly sympathetic to Mainoo’s situation and has dismissed suggestions of a personal issue between them. In an interview with beIN SPORTS the United manager pointed to a lack of midweek fixtures as a key factor limiting rotation at the club this season. He said: “I see Kobbie Mainoo training today, and he deserves to play,” Amorim explained. “But then I have to take [out] one guy that is playing really well.<\/p>\n
“We should have played in the Carabao Cup, because I need to see Kobbie Mainoo playing. I need to see Josh [Zirkzee]… all these guys, they deserve to play, but in the end, with one game [every week], you need to make choices. So you have both sides, but we are taking advantage of the good side of not playing in the middle of the week.”<\/p>\n
United’s recent Carabao Cup exit and the absence of European fixtures have reduced the need for squad rotation, with Amorim choosing to retain a settled side that is unbeaten in their last four matches.
