Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has confirmed the club turned down a January offer for Marc Gu\u00e9hi, accepting the likelihood the centre back will leave on a free in 2026. Parish said the club withdrew from a potential deal because the immediate financial gain did not justify weakening the team.<\/p>\n
Parish argued the margin for error in the Premier League is small and losing Gu\u00e9hi now could change Palace\u2019s season trajectory. \u201cWe needed to keep Marc because the difference between us having a stellar season and having a relegation-threatened season is us winning five games or not. <\/p>\n
\u201cSo the margins in the Premier League are very tight and you have to remember that Michael [Olise] has gone, we\u2019re OK, Ebbs [Eberechi Eze] has gone, we\u2019re OK, Wilfred [Zaha] went, we\u2019re OK. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a limit to how much you can keep doing that before you break down the fabric of the team.\u201d<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s stance came amid widespread speculation that top teams are preparing to sign Gu\u00e9hi on a free transfer in 2026. The draft of suitors includes Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are reported to be the first side to make formal contact with Gu\u00e9hi\u2019s entourage.
