Manchester United have accelerated the exposure of 15-year-old prospect JJ Gabriel by involving him in first-team training this week. The forward, who has seven goals in six appearances for United\u2019s Under-18s this season, took part in an 11 v 11 friendly during a session on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Part of United\u2019s plan for Gabriel is to integrate him with Ruben Amorim\u2019s senior side, a process that reports say has been overseen closely by Amorim, who has regularly reviewed the youngster\u2019s academy performances. Club efforts to keep the teenager at Old Trafford have included inviting him to the director\u2019s box to watch the game against Arsenal earlier this season.<\/p>\n
Gabriel\u2019s scoring record and the fact that he plays well above his age group have prompted calls for a first-team opportunity. His form at academy level has led to comparisons with Barcelona\u2019s Lamine Yamal and, more recently, Max Dowman of Arsenal. Despite those developments, Gabriel remains ineligible to play competitively for the senior team this season. Premier League regulations require players to have turned 15 by August 2025 to be eligible for senior appearances, and Gabriel missed that cut-off by two months, meaning he is simply too young to feature in competitive fixtures for the remainder of the campaign.<\/p>\n
He will become eligible to play for United\u2019s senior side from the beginning of the 2026\u201327 campaign.
