Ruben Amorim\u2019s side overturned the odds at Anfield on Sunday as Manchester United earned a 2\u20131 victory over Liverpool. Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead inside the opening two minutes, Cody Gakpo levelled in the 78th minute and Harry Maguire\u2019s late header restored the lead with six minutes of normal time remaining.<\/p>\n
The result was United\u2019s first win at Anfield since 2016 and moved them up to ninth in the table. Liverpool were left to trail table-topping Arsenal by four points. United absorbed heavy pressure after the interval; Liverpool dominated possession and repeatedly threatened, striking the woodwork on three occasions while United also hit the frame of the goal.<\/p>\n
Amorim had reflected on the selection burden before the game. \u201cWhen you have to win and [have] the responsibility of winning, it is so much harder,\u201d the Portuguese boss mused . That underdog status appeared to free his team to start on the front foot.<\/p>\n
