The Football Association has sanctioned Enzo Maresca after his dismissal late in Chelsea\u2019s win over Liverpool, handing the manager a one-match touchline ban and an \u00a38,000 fine. The FA set out the reasons for the punishment in a formal notice on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner and\/or used abusive and\/or insulting words and\/or behaviour during the fixture, which led to his dismissal around the 96th minute,\u201d the FA said. Maresca admitted the charge and accepted the financial penalty.<\/p>\n
Maresca addressed the incident while speaking at the Festival dello Sport di Trento. \u201cIt was a huge emotion. It\u2019s my second season at Chelsea and it was the first time we won at home in the last minute. Sending off? Many times football is passion, instinct. I probably didn\u2019t have time to think. It was an instinctive reaction, but I think it was worth it,\u201d the Italian manager said.<\/p>\n
The suspension arrives amid a run of dismissals affecting Chelsea. The trio of Robert S\u00e1nchez, Trevoh Chalobah and Jo\u00e3o Pedro were sent off recently across the Premier League and Champions League. Including Maresca\u2019s red card, Chelsea have seen a player or manager dismissed in four of their last five matches.<\/p>\n
Maresca dismissed the wider implications of that sequence when asked about the club\u2019s disciplinary record. \u201cFor me personally, it\u2019s not any concern or issue, it\u2019s just a moment probably you need to take a different option and avoid. Sometimes it\u2019s better to concede the goal or the chance because then it\u2019s 11 vs. 11,\u201d Maresca said of S\u00e1nchez\u2019s and Chalobah\u2019s sending offs against Manchester United and Brighton respectively.<\/p>\n
