Roy Keane has publicly challenged Marcus Rashford\u2019s contribution to the culture at his former club while acknowledging the forward\u2019s talent as he returns to the England setup. Rashford had suggested recently: \u201cI feel like I have been in an inconsistent environment for a very long time, so it is even more difficult to be consistent.\u201d That comment was widely interpreted as a critique of long-standing dysfunction at Manchester United.<\/p>\n
Keane addressed those remarks on ITV, saying: \u201cTowards the end of his time at United, there was obviously issues,\u201d and added: \u201cHe was part of the problem with the environment, especially [as] one of the most experienced players at United.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe should have been setting the standards and showing new people at he club what it\u2019s like to be a United player. But that\u2019s been well documented. What we have to look at is he\u2019s got this chance now with England and he deserved it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The article notes Rashford spent nine years in the senior side at his boyhood club and played for six different managers during that period, each attempting different styles with squads assembled by earlier regimes. Keane conceded Rashford\u2019s quality, saying: \u201cNo doubt about his talent, he\u2019s obviously fantastic.\u201d He went on to pinpoint areas for improvement: \u201cBut the bit that would have frustrated fans is his body language, not running back or not pressing properly.
