Senior figures at Manchester United believe Ruben Amorim retains the backing of his squad following a series of informal conversations between players and senior ownership. The picture described to club officials is one of a largely supportive dressing room despite a difficult start to the season.<\/p>\n
ESPN supported that notion, reporting that talks took place in the build-up to the Sunderland game. It was stressed the conversations were by no means formal and were not held specifically to discuss Amorim’s future, but the manager was a frequent topic during discussions that company sources characterised as largely positive.<\/p>\n
Among those invited into the discussions were captain Bruno Fernandes and other recognised leaders in the squad. United officials were pleased to hear of a positive mindset among players at a time when some supporters have been vocal in calling for change.<\/p>\n
The prevailing view inside the club is to allow Amorim a full season in charge before any definitive judgment on his position. That approach is framed by the scale of the summer rebuild: Amorim has overseen a transfer spend worth over \u00a3200 million ($268.7 million) and now has a squad the club feels is better suited to his demands.<\/p>\n
At the same time it is acknowledged internally that results must improve. It has been noted that Amorim cannot afford too many more miserable outcomes if he wants to keep his job, a point the manager has publicly accepted.<\/p>\n
