Mason Mount publicly defended Ruben Amorim after Manchester United\u2019s 2\u20130 win over Sunderland, insisting the group remain united despite an unsettled run of results. Mount framed the victory as part of a collective effort and a response to the scrutiny surrounding Amorim following a difficult 2024\u201325 season.<\/p>\n
\u201cObviously, even in this season, we\u2019ve gone through ups and downs, but we\u2019re together. And we\u2019ll continue to be together with the manager, with the staff, to continue moving forward,\u201d Mount said.<\/p>\n
That togetherness comes against a backdrop of concern: the Red Devils have still yet to win back-to-back Premier League matches during Amorim\u2019s tenure, a reality that keeps the manager under constant pressure. Reports have linked Manchester United with the possibility of appointing Oliver Glasner or Xavi as potential replacements, but Mount chose to back his current boss ahead of the October international break.<\/p>\n
The underlying numbers from Amorim\u2019s stint to date are stark. The tally reads: won 19, drawn 12, lost 19. Goals scored 78, goals conceded 76. Win percentage 38%.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a good relationship with the manager. I don\u2019t think it\u2019s any better than all the other lads. I think I have the experience of playing a similar formation to what he likes as I have played it before in the past [at Chelsea],\u201d Mount added.<\/p>\n
Individually Mount has shown signs of recovery. Through seven appearances he has already matched his Premier League tally from his last two seasons at Man Utd and is now fully fit. The England international remains intent on regaining the form that followed his \u00a355 million ($69.5 million) transfer from Chelsea in June 2023.<\/p>\n
Mount also pointed to the need to convert training plans into matchday execution. \u201cFor us, it\u2019s just focusing on what the manager wants and that\u2019s in training,\u201d Mount said. \u201cAnd then when it comes to the games, doing exactly what he asked for. And I think, as you see today, we stuck to the job in hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone did their roles and responsibilities and it was a good performance [against Sunderland]. I think in the second half it got a bit cagey and there were times where we had to defend. We had to put the body on the line,\u201d Mount finished.<\/p>\n
